With the magazine (would prefer the floorplate internal mag) can you guys tell me does the regular 5 round howa mag fit the mini? And if so does it stick out less than the 10 round?

No-one has seen a 5 round magazine yet.

Hoping it won't stick out further than the base of the magazine hard against the bottom 'metal'.

Thats a shame the regular one wont fit. Fingers crossed the situation is rectified soon. I like the idea of the howa mini for my vartarg project. I dont like magazines that stick out the bottom of the stock however.

I've looked real hard at converting a normal Howa SA bottom metal and it isn't a simple cut and shut - some machining is involved. IMHO it is not a commercial proposition due to the fact that Howa owners are not into spending $400 on a simple bottom metal for their rifles. The market for the basic Howa really likes the detachable plastic magazine as it is easy to load/unload (even if most of us custom rifle owners don't like it).

Yeah righto, its been a while since I owned one. Had a blued 1500 in 22-250 that became a 22BR and 22BRX before I moved it on. Just after something small with 223 boltface to build on. Can get hold of a remmy fireball donor action but this might be a cheaper way to go and be something cool.

Someone should have a chat to Atlasworxs about an aluminium hinged floorplate setup. If he could sell 10 or so to start he'd probably have a go. I had a look at it but as a one-of it'd be an easy $500 worth of work and there's a lot of projects in front of it.

A bandsaw and some superglue would bring the 5 round mag to fruition a lot quicker, it would still hang out a little though.

Greg are you making tube stocks to suit the mini or was it a one off?

Yep I'm still in the process of making them. I still haven't come up with a transition from the stock to the tube that I'm 100% happy with but have almost a few weeks off starting tomorrow and will get back into it. Personally I reckon the conventional style fore end feels better to hang onto but tube setups seem to be fairly popular so I'll keep at it.

I'm scaling the little Howa stock up a bit to fit Remington/Tikka as well, a few mm wider and longer and it should work great. I'll try it out on a couple of my own ones first and see how it goes.
