dave,

The yanks do take the HG thing seriously don't they...don't know anyone here that shoots a gun like that .... excluding rail guns in BR experimental class.

The USA does not shoot 500 Fly like we do, they are more 600 and 1000 yd and the 1k is very competitive here its competitive but most use their 500 Fly gun for 1k.

Where are you located generally ????

OK here we go, I finally managed to upload a pic, this is gunna be a slow process so more to come yet :D

This is my short range benchgun. BAT SV with HV,LV and sporter tubes, Jewel 1.5oz trigger, Sightron 36X scope in Kelbly rings on Davidson bases and is glued into a carbon fibre Speedy Millenia stock. I am seriously in love with this thing as it's given me a dang good year this year, prying this outta my fingers would be like trying to pull a leather jacket off a bikie  Best group in comp has been a 0.082" at 100yrds.

This is my Light Fly gun come club gun.

Remo 700 in a Procal laminate stock for short range work, I just change into the purple MBR style stock for Fly shoots.
I have 3 tubes for this as well, 6.5/284 HV, 6mmBR LV and 6PPC in MP taper. Scope is a Nightforce 12-42X in Kelbly rings and Davidson bases, Jewel 1.5oz trigger.

Best group at 500m is 2.3" and a score of 54.2, love the 6.5 but it is at the end of it's life atm, so will now be a bunny buster...if can find a decent pill that won't 'vapourise' about 30m out that is
I will change to either a 7mm or 30 cal next tube as it's hard to see 6.5mm holes at 500m

This is my Savage markII 22 rimfire. complete with tuner "a-la Stevo".
It is in a custom Ironbark thumbhole stock, factory trigger adjusted to about 12oz and wears a Tasco 6-24x , I dunno why people bag Tasco's, this scope has been on every gun I have owned at some stage and has been knocked around a fair bit, yet has given me no probs.

AI,

Maaate, yours is the prettiest thing I have seen.....ever :D does it shoot as good as it looks ? And does it shoot OK at short range?

After 'feeling up' nearly every action available on the market, BAT's are THE slickest one going atm 8)

I was thinking just a straight 284 as I can't see any advantage with the 280, I would like to get into the short mags also but they are not yet 'proven' to me at long range target and it means bolt face mods as well, probably '06 Imp will be the choice if I go 30cal.

I am dreaming of building a long range bench gun next year, on one of the big BAT actions as the remo is really a piece of crap in comparison  still undecided what direction to take as to wether I keep chasing the short range mob or spend my time doing long range stuff instead. So that will be the decider.

The caliber is really amazing.. Fireforming brass resulted in some under inch groups at 250m.

I had some ammo left after a shoot... so shot it at 100m. 16 shots into mid .3's..........

Recoil is so darn light, tracks beautifully....

Give me some practice, and it will shoot some excellent 500m groups.

I'll load up some rounds and go test on dusk when the wind dies out.. see what I can get!!!

Cheers

JR

I have had some success with the 'short cut' but have been using 2217 mostly. I chony'd both and got a spread of only 17 fps with it (the 17) the 2213 averaged 35fps :?
I found the verticle can be tuned out in the load and poor gun handling will make a huge difference as well. Free recoil seems the way to go but it does take it's toll on my shoulder by the end of the day

Sounds like there are plenty of options for caliber so will have a yarn to you at Brizzy about it 8)

AI

I reckon the Dasher would be a sweety

If you are going to practise short range stuff (you may already have some) I recommend you get yourself a set of good quality flags. The Elliot and Edgley styles are the most commonly used types and are quality items :D I try to practise when conditions are 'choppy' or 'switchy' as most ranges in Aus are pretty much like that. It also gives you confidence in trusting your gear, as at times you will need to hold off a caliber or so due to when the condition you got 4 shots off in won't come back :x

Enjoy
