With the way things are going these days, extra bolt on bits seem to be pretty well available, there are some pretty sharp cut and shut practitioners around as well. Just got to have the cash available and pretty soon you will be ordering on-line for parts just like you do for rifles. You will be able to practice your reamer making skills to do some re-sleeve jobs. sure beats the old leg of mutton with the bone pulled out.

Wish you could do that with women.
So this is where the thread went south

Bruce have a look at the ADI Handloaders book they list the 204 (24" Barrel)with 32`s doing 150 fps more with Max loads than my 20 VT is doing with a barrel 2" shorter. This is with 10-11 grns less powder as well.

Missed, I like the efficiency of the 20vt, less barrel heat, longer barrel life, less muzzle blast and as you say pretty close in velocity. The Fireball size case seems to be an optimum size for small cals.

Just need to find the extra $ to build a 20vt, always had a Sako Vixen on the wish list from when I use to go to Mick Smiths shop in th late '70s. Just may have to bide my time till something turns up or shorten a CZ 204.

Hey Bruce, if the donor shoots any good, keep the 222 barrel and get it registered as a switch barrel, so you really have to shoot the donor.

Seddo, you'll get over your big calibre thing one day and see the light......but I bet your having fun. :D

Missed, you started this. I found Ausvarmint when searching for info on the 20VT and came upon one of your threads. That was a couple of years ago and a couple of other rifles side tracking me.
Will keep the offer of dies in mind, can make 221 ok with what I have. Need to get a Redding S neck die when I know what bushing suits the reamer and a body die, neck turning gear as well. This is my 2016 project. :D

Camel, exactly what I was thinking.

I am building a 20VT at the moment on a REM 788 action with a Walther S/S 1-12 twist in contour #3150: Hunter Class Target at 26”.

For brass I ordered 100 cases of Norma 221FB and ran them straight threw my Hornady 20VT F/L die. I also have a the Hornady microjust seating steam and a Redding Type S neck die sitting in my draw.

I am also going to run the 32gr Z-Max that I have sitting there waiting to go.

Going to bed her in a custom Hatchers stock and mount a 6-24x50 Sightron on her with the MOA-2 Reticle.

She should make short work of any lil pesties out to 500m. :rifle2:

All I have to do now is wait for my smith to put her together when he gets a chance. 8)

from all the research I did on the 20VT before starting the build, all I got was positive reports.
the only half bad thing I found was the brass situation, but Norma fixed that for me.

VARTARG, sounds like a good setup you have planned.
I am cosidering using the Norma/Nosler brass. Do you have the neck diameter of a loaded round( or anyone else)?

I have made 20 VT from Remington ,Winchester ,Federal :spew: Norma,PMC,and Lapua 222 brass

also Nosler 221 Fireball

The best brass so far was Lapua 222 without a doubt

Now when I when lotto i will buy some Lapua 221 fireball brass.

32 ZMax was made for the Vartarg or was the Vartarg was made for the 32 ZMax.

Ruce unturned 221 Norma/nosler loaded round = .230 in a .232 chamber.

The original Todd Kindler reamer specs is a neck of .232

The best brass I formed into vartarg was the ADI brass 223 blanks. Consistent thick brass with small flash hole.
