G'day All,
Oh I think it like that for a very good reason, the gentleman did represent Australia in the last F class World Championships in the US. So I'd reckon there is some science to it.
Probably something to do with harmonics, possibly by slightly moving the barrel blocked action, forward/aft, for tuning purposes or to have a very long barrel by having the bulk of it thinner and the thicker muzzle to control whip.

Now there is something for someone to try, a switch end barrel. One chambered for say a 6br and threaded to fit the action, then switch ends and chamber it for something like a 6XC if you need a bit more powder space. Surely there is someone who has tried this.

As Ned said,basically the enlarged muzzle end is a damper,the idea is to widen the accurate node.Fortunately I don't shoot F/Open as the owner of the outfit would flog me in a competition.
The homemade RHS stock and the gunmetal grey paint,is a conversation piece in F/class circles.
For lovers of walnut and oil finished stocks,these outfits may seem extreme,but that is not the object.

The guy who owns this rifle knows his stuff and is one heck of a competitor- always up there in the podium and has won many state titles/queens badges- even a national title from memory. His stock is his own design and is often the subject to plenty of friendly banter but quickly puts the hecklers in their place when the shooting starts. Seeing it in action last year while competing in Tasmania, it was clear to see that there is science to it and it performs brilliantly. There is a reason for heavy weights at the muzzle on f class rifles and its not really an uncommon thing to see anymore. Saw a pic of one recently that looked really interesting and may be another step further again on the muzzle weight theory. Admittedly on the rifle pictured it was the first time I'd heard or seen one incorporated in the barrel profile but it still has the same effect as one added after fitting a barrel to a rifle.
