Re: Budget Large Wildcat Varminter
Cheers Chris.
Yes it should just trying to organise either something I think in the 180gr range that are fairly cheap (cheap for 358) for most trips. Will probably end up with 225 or 250 acp's if I purposely chase bigger stuff in the NT.
Thinking speer flat noses or hornday interlocks or the 200 gr hornady flex tips are about the same price.

Re: Budget Large Wildcat Varminter
Bit of an update
Firefirmed 20 cases at Yass last weekend.
Settled on a min charge of 8208 of 47 grains as listed for the 338 fed which has same case capacity as the original swede case.
200gr Hornady FTX pills used were seated to just be kissing the lands. They formed up nice 8208 seems to burn real clean as well with very little soot on the necks and down the barrel.
Accuracy is there considering it is a fire form load, very light rifle and possibly first firings for this barrel as life before is unkown other than it was a MAB supposedly unfired.
Picture of the cases shows difference between 358/ai/swede cases.

I paid more than a little interest in this rifle down at Yass
I think it will be a cracker.
Cheers

Re: Budget Large Wildcat Varminter
One thing about a trebuchet they maje a big hole. I could be on to the next big score cartridge lol Might have to try some 225 accubonds. Although i think most factory 358s have fairly slow twist barrels 14 and 16 so pills aren't made that slippery hehe.
That 47gr load in a 338 pushes 200s around the 2800 mark so once i work some up to around 50 odd gr they should be humming.

Re: Budget Large Wildcat Varminter
I was pretty impressed with your .358 the other weekend Ryan, the recoil is definitely manageable for the performance it gives and the accuracy is certainly there for whatever hairy critters it gets pointed at.

Some more thumbholes in paper at 50 off hand at Seaham last weekend. Bothe 200 gr lead tips and ftx pills are going down range all right it seems.

I am pretty sure these loads are very mild and will prob end up with around 2-3 more grains so should up them hopefully just shy of 2800 which is good for a 200 I think.
I def think a recoil pad swap will be a must for these loads and think 1 ladder test should be enough to get minute of big hairy stuff

Let me know when you take the smoke pole out will be good to see it in the flesh.
