Ryan, to tell the truth I wouldn't have a clue mate, got no idea on how long my seating depth needs to be to get in touch with the rifling. Just seated them so the neck had a good grip on them. I made the cases slightly long in the shoulder so the bolt was a very tight close, not quite enough to need a hammer to close it, but definitely needed to lean on the bolt handle.

Extraction was very easy.

Loaded with 87 gn Hornady sp, rem 9 1/2 primers, 37gn AR 2208. Projectiles seated out to jam into the lands a couple of thou, headspace is at zero, have to really lean on the bolt to close it the last bit.

Mark do still have any 257 roberst rounds. Would love to see one of them in the line up for a comparison

A bit of an update.....

Loaded up some 100gn speer soft point projectiles and tested for max load, ended up getting stiff bolt lift at 41.5gn 2208, dropped back to 40.0 and loaded 5 up for a test group. took them and the rifle out west with me on sunday, shot this group using two pillows over the bonnet of the ute. distance 100 paces, 98.5 yds on the range finder. close enough.

first shot, centre but two inches above the aiming mark, dropped it down 8 clicks and promptly pulled the next shot high and right. Settled down and fired off three good steady shots. Pretty happy with the results. The little holes are from checking the 17 the other night. If I had the scope adjusted before I started, I reckon the first shot would be pretty well in the centre of the other three. Loading up some more of the same to test at Yass.

The Camel got a work out over the weekend with most at the Missathon having a crack at it. Sophie fire formed 30 odd cases for me, and from Sean's report, had a great time doing it.

Found it doesn't like 100gn Speer Hot Core projectiles, ended up with a very nice group shaped like a number 5 domino, three inches on the diagonal. The 100gn Nosler BTs worked well when I held my tongue out the correct side of my mouth, the 100gn Speer SPBT went well and smacked the gong out to 300 a few times. Load is either a little warm, or I need to do a bit more tinkering with my brass, I think mainly turning the necks down a bit more, had a pretty tight bolt close and open on twice fired brass. I will persevere.

Now have 99 fire formed cases to play around with, Dan351 got one for his collection.

Edit: Speed of average 3130fps with the 100gn Speer SPBT was impressive on top of 40gn 2208. Might give 2209 a crack and see if that works any better.

Yeah Sophie kept plugging away beside me hitting the gong regularly. She left the last five for me and it was easy to hit the 300m gong.
I think things will fall over when you hit them with the 25 Camel, Camel.

Yet another piece of the 25 Camel puzzle was put into place today with the arrival of my new registration papers, serial number 177**-A in 308 and serial number 177**-B in 25. Unfortunately they didn't include the word Camel in the calibre designation, so looks like I have to ring the buggers again.

Also finally got some other rego papers, one for the 17/222, which has taken them over 12 months and 4 prompts from my gunsmith, to get them right, except for they have still got the magazine capacity as 0000, and another for a Mauser action that was my 338-06 and is now a 243, this one only took 8 months.

Geez this shit with public servants is really starting to get up my nose big time, its not that hard to do the job that they are well paid for.

being new to all this is it a NSW issue or do the other states have the same red tape / stuff ups?

I found both the NT and VIC to be pretty good actually.
