I've done it again, I got offered another mod70 actions today and bought it. How can you say no at $450 posted. This one is an 308 XTR featherweight with a bulged barrel, I think it will be off to Keith for a 220AI barrel.
I'll have a chat to Keith and Luke and see what I can come up with in regards to reamers and will make the decision after that. I like the idea of a 6mm and 7mm on a 204 or 223 case.

Seddo why not go a 6/220 swift and reinvent the 6mm Lee Navy
Keith has a 224cal cylinder barrel of mine, I decided to build an old school rifle (long scope) with a fast twist to try heavy projies. I know they are not the best in a 220 case but I need to find a use for that barrel. The other option is to go a 223AI with that barrel and use the 308 bolt face for a different calibre. There are too many options.
What about 17 predator (17/223) or 17/204 to shoot 25-30 grns projies( if you can get them that is).
Just a thought.
I do like the idea of the 6mm/204 though. Could be a good one.
I don't care about the price of projies, it's not like I will shoot 000's of rounds through it.
I picked up a savage 220 swift barrel,100 cases and dies off used guns for $470 posted so I'm definitely doing a 220. I have a Stevens action so I might try screwing that barrel in as well.
25/204 has been done and shot original 250Savage speeds. Larger caliber struggles for speed as projectile weight increases, so it starts to be more a goat/pig rifle to 150yards rather than varminter.

If your thinking 20 then I'd go straight 204 for the ease of it , I thought the same thing as someone else why would you use a dirty old Winchester when you import stiller
It depends what you want to do with it. Velocity is pretty close to 30-30 with light pills so its still pretty handy up close. I just like playing with subsonic stuff, it screws with peoples heads when you start shooting 300/500 yards with a subsonic calibre (inc 22LR). The trick to get great accuracy is to batch projies and brass as i have found that makes a difference but if your shooting 100-150 it wont matter., My 30-221 reamer has a pretty long throat so its suited to 200gr+ projies so i dont know how it would go with short ones. The lightest i have tried is 155gr Nosler CC and i was running them around 1800-1900fps and they were shooting around MOA at 50m out of my 7615 but i ended up selling that barrel as it throat was too long for the magazines.
I did some more load work with my 338BR and 375BR today so i should be in a position to take it to the missathon for some longer range testing.
