yeah having a look....
it'd be better to use some 25mm bar leading down to the 40x40 square, & put a twist in it - so that from front on its a much smaller area to hit. (Matt - i think you had this setup?)
The other option was to weld a place across from teh star picket, so that only the 40x40 plate is showing.
meh - i'll get to it later
New Field Targets
Re: New Field Targets
And now we gots 19 spinners! Did another 9 yesterday.
Newer & slightly simpler design too & got some orange marker paint.
They dont spin quite as well, but are ok with a little lube.
Also purchased some smaller star pickets so i didnt have to fart arse around & cut larger ones to size.
So we'll have enough to mark out up to 50m for practice/sighting now too!
Used some galvanised rust from Bunnys... its absolute dogsh*t steel - cant believe how bad it is.
the zinc was literally peeling off because it was completely rusty below. No real surprises

Re: New Field Targets

Re: New Field Targets
Hi guys,
Nice work Nate on the spinners. Good to have some higher powered options. I'm thinking the final evolution is going to be a one piece model with a twist in the top so you can do away with welding altogether. I'm also thinking on planning a course that uses more spinners as they can be placed in more places and do not require a string to reset. This may also be an option with the next Newcastle shoot.
Nate, I leave all my targets at the range (where else am I going to use them) and I have a yellow tub in the office. We have a committee meeting this evening so will be up there if you want to drop in, or alternatively leave them at my place.

Bruce - I like your style
My customer has a laser cutter with a a 4.5M x 1.5M table capability that is under-utilised. He also has mild steel stock from 2 to 12mm thick plate (12mm for Youngy's 40 fpe beast !!)
Geoff leave poor Kermy alone
