Picked up the new toy

Post by 220 »

240 is sitting in the safe, should get it setup and shot tomorrow.
Still need to decide what scope to put on it, thinking about swapping the VX III 3.5-10 off the 222 but have a SI sightron 4-12 sitting in the shop.
Leaning towards the SI because it would keep it as a budget setup (less than $1000 all up for rifle mounts and scope) and it has the HHR reticle, with a 55gr load I wont be more than 1.75" high or low to 300y, the 2.5moa mark would put me on at around 425 and the 5.5moa mark about 550y.

Will post some pics once I have a scope mounted, hopefully have my dies in time to load for missathon. Shouldn't have to much trouble working through the 100 factories, have a couple of roo tag applications here to put in Monday.

Headed up the farm after lunch yesterday and of course started raining about 5kms down the road and didn't let up. :(
Don't mind my rifles getting wet but stuffed if I was going to get soaked sighting it in so didn't fire a shot. This afternoon was a bit better, set a target up at 25m first shot was a about 7" low and a couple to the left, adjusted and next shot was about 1/2" left and still a bit low, took it up a bit more and moved the target out further 2.5" high and 2" left adjust again and moved the target to 100, first shot was on the money about 1.5" high. Good enough for a rough sight in.

Managed to locate a bunny at about 120 and had a crack, not much of a test but Im yet to even fire a group to see how it shoots. Recoil makes it hard to see the impact but the sound of it hitting doesn't leave you in any doubt
