Hatchet Restoration.

I just restored this little cheap hatchet I found in the shed. It's sharp but not razor sharp, that'd take too much time on the file.
Anyway I think it turned out well!

You aren't going to go all Lumberjack on us are you mate ? Axes, hatchets, videos about working wood with axes and such, don't tell me there is a log cabin in the future, now that would be an interesting build thread, maybe you could get in touch with Johno, he is the expert on that stuff.

By the way, nice job on the tommy hawk, what did you use on the handle, I give mine a go over with oil every 12 months or so, depending on use.

Log cabin would be nice, but that requires a 'lotto worth of winnings to do properly, on the right land etc etc.

i did one up a while ago and put a long handle on it.
the closest thing i could come up with to a viking axe.
pretty sucky attempt but what the hell.
got it hanging above the lounge room door. [in handy reach].

Thanks mate, it isn't as shiney after a few coats and now that it has dried.

It was a silly little project as the hatchet was a cheapie but now I'll be happy to do this to a better brand..

Next on the list is to hang a new handle on an axe. Does anyone know where I can get hickory handles in Australia?

Bigger hardware stores, but mostly you will get Aussie hardwood handles, they are just as good I reckon. Just check the grain, and no sapwood.

Krugers make American hickory handles. They are in Grafton I think. I don't have one from there I got mine from Trade tools in QLD. The only thing is buying site unseen is with grain orientation or knots you might not get what you are after.
