New Field Targets

Our club just took delivery of 9 new Gamo field targets. Good news is that this batch is the brand new design.

Best features of the new design are the removable faceplate that means you can swap the front plate with thicker/different shapes by just removing 2 wingnuts.

The other new feature is that the targets come with a range of kill zone reducers that you hook on depending on your skill level.

This brings our club inventor to 16 so we should have no reliability issues for the July comp.

We only had the 1 silly powered rifle last time (>20fpe) - so its looking pretty good all round i think!

Probably leaving the Wednesday before and back Tuesday. I do some business visits before and after the shoot in Vic and NSW. Shoot is on the 18/7/2015.

Got some Gal tube & bar for the spinners on the weekend.

Will make up a simple stake out of some 30mm angle, cut into a point so it can be hammered in.
Then have the strike plate off the side of that.

The slight issue is if you miss the strike plate but hit what its hanging from, so i'll put some plate in front so only the plate is actually visible/hittable.

Standard 40mm zones for all at this stage (they could be trimmed at a later stage anyway).

How deep do we want the stakes & how high off the ground?
I'm thinking about 400mm should be a good length in total?

Hey fellas, I don't have a air gun and not that interested in getting involved with them much, but if you want I could make some targets for you lot, give me something to do while my rabbits get back to shootable numbers, just supply the material and destructions and Ill do them for you lot. Got a pretty good workshop, and like doing stuff like that. What do you reckon. Only snag I can see is getting them to you. I have plenty of offcuts from other projects, and pretty good at scrounging stuff when needed.

Cheers Camel - Its a bit of a black art at the moment unfortunately.

Getting a reliable mechanism for high & low power just isnt happening.
We've tried a few designs & the difference in 12fpe & 20fpe is just too much.

I've been able to get mine working well for low powered at around 10m, but at 30m they're just not reliable.

for the amount of stuffing around - a $50 commercial target is unbeatable, and good for up to 20fpe.
we'll just do some easy spinners for ultra high powered >20fpe, as they're just too heavy for <=3mm steel.

plus the more targets the better!

put together 9 of em.
total height is 500mm, cut up some star pickets.
enlarged the hole at the top, weld in a 10mm rod
12mm sleeve over the top & then a 40x40 plate welded to the sleeve.

The target area is *slightly* bigger than 40mm round of course, & there's a chance to hit the small extension the 40x40 square is welded to - but meh... rock solid & simple.

I'll bring em along to the next comp.
Just need another 7? so we've got 3 x 5 lanes right?

that'll keep high powered rifles off the nice targets.

My usual chewing gum welds! By the time I get up to speed on a material its time to put the welder away for another 3 months! Either way should be fit for purpose.
