Newcastle Field Target comp - Sun 2nd August

Post by JWD »

After a fun day making some new friends up North we have a date for the first field target comp in the Hunter region. We've chosen a Sunday for this one to allow those normally busy on Saturdays to attend and having it start in the morning means you can get home afterwards and beat the traffic. It's a great opportunity for those finding Hornsby a bit too far to drive and for those that need more than a monthly FT fix :)

This is a big step for the club and it would be great to have another regular FT event in mid NSW so let's all throw our support behind this to help build some more momentum.

Details below
Newcastle Field Target Social comp - all Welcome
Date: Sun 2nd August
Time: Arrive from 9:00 am for a 10am kickoff
Venue: Newcastle
Smallbore and Air Rifle Club (54 Eldon St, Waratah West NSW 2298)

Conduct of the day
We're using the club's Smallbore 50m range with 15 drop targets laid out at ranges from 15m to 45m. This aligns with standard FT events but can be held in a small course (ie on the range rather than in the bush). Course layout is 5 different positions with 3 targets shot from each position, 1 shot per target.

Rifles will be chronoed into over/under 12ft-lbs to fit in with international rules. Shooters compete in teams of three where you take turns to shoot/score/time each other.

This format was very successful for previous comps in Sydney and goes a long way to helping grow the skills of newer shooters as well as grow the bonds between the air rifle fraternity. As with last time, it's a friendly match with participation and creation of interest as the main goal of the day but making it a little more competitive for the more keen shooters.

Location
Newcastle Smallbore and Air Rifle Club is an all weather outdoor 50m range with a covered firing point so the event can still proceed if the weather is poor. Address is 54 Eldon St, Waratah West NSW 2298.

Costs
Newcastle club and Associate club members: $8
SSAA members: $10
Other licenced/P650 visitors: $25

Entry fee covers range expenses, wear and tear on the targets, and a post match BBQ.

Refreshments
The club will provide the venue, and a BBQ afterwards.
Targets provided by North Sydney Smallbore and Air Rifle Club (thanks guys)
Tea and coffee making facilities on site.
Soft drinks and snacks are available for purchase.

Equipment required
You need to bring your own air rifle and pellets.

We have 15 targets of different styles as well as some spinners and paper targets for sighting in.

That's fine.

We'll set up some spinners next to the drop targets for the high powered air rifles so you can blast away with no damage.

It's a big effort to start something like this. Best of luck with it and hoping for its success.

Hi guys,

Don't forget that Sunday week is the first comp for Newcastle. It would be great to get this off the ground up North and give some more depth to the FT community so lets try and make a big showing and show them what a great comp looks like. There has been some interest from local shooters but if we can bolster the ranks with some Hornsby regulars that will be even better.

If you're stuck for a ride or need someone to write you an excuse note, PM me.
