Re: The Worlds First 25 Camel
Interesting, just guessing, but I reckon there may be some neck turning or reaming involved.
Keep us informed as it seems to me that a 25-06 would do all you want, apart that it needs a long action.
Mike.

G'day Mike, yep you are correct I will need to ream out the necks, but I'm not too worried about that, a donut has formed inside the lower neck on the ones that Andrew did for me.
A 25-06 would do all I want, as would another 257 Roberts, but, and this is the important bit for me, they are all readily available, this will be unique to me, my very own cartridge, something that I have wanted to do for the last 30 odd years. There may be something similar somewhere in the world, but I cant find it. Some are close, but I have tried to change a few small things to make it MINE. I know that its not a big thing for some, but hey, I may just have stumbled onto the next 222, 243 or 30/06 and end up famous. One never knows, Hey ?

What are you going to base the 6.5 BG on ?
Can I suggest a 223 case.

Re: The Worlds First 25 Camel
Got a text message from my gunsmith in Griffith that put a big grin on my face a few minutes ago, "Want me to stamp 25 Camel on the barrel of this thing" ?
What should I answer ?

Pick up is Tuesday morning, I have been thinking of taking the swag over and camping on his lawn Monday night. Excited, me, ....nah not freaking much. He was also taking 2.5 inches off the end of my 17/222 barrel tonight, cant beat the service, only dropped the barrels over there two weeks ago.

So how many rounds do you have prepared? I want to know what day officially marks "25 Camel", which I presume is the day or two after summer solstice (northern hemisphere).Camel wrote:Pick up is Tuesday morning, I have been thinking of taking the swag over and camping on his lawn Monday night. Re: The Worlds First 25 Camel
Still haven't got any rounds completed mate, got 200 Lap 308 brass ready to start on, didn't want to bugger any cases before the chamber was cut, I will have to adjust the dies I am using bit by bit, till I get a nice tight fit in the chamber. Ill be taking photos etc of the process.

Re: The Worlds First 25 Camel
Let us know the official LAUNCH date of the first perfected round. Gotta be proud of making your own round, not many of us would have the experience or balls to try that!Camel wrote:Still haven't got any rounds completed mate, got 200 Lap 308 brass ready to start on, didn't want to bugger any cases before the chamber was cut, I will have to adjust the dies I am using bit by bit, till I get a nice tight fit in the chamber. Re: The Worlds First 25 Camel
Mate I will declare a national public holiday. Its not that hard really, just a matter of looking around and finding bits that can be converted to what you want. Then figuring out how to do it. Yep, a bit proud alright.
