Scope Choice?

sore a browning abolt in 243wssm for $480 the other day couldnt believe it!

Nah Dave it shoots great. Can put 3 shots into 20c coin at 200m and that is fine with me using factory ammo. Have read all the stuff about them but I just wanted one cos it was a bit different and they were going pretty cheap. Have shot roos (on permit) up to 300m away in the noggin and that to me is more that acceptable. Have not fire to may shots as of yet though(100 roughly) but time will tell I spose on the errosion issues. For 480 go and buy it if its ok there good fun and hit hard Mine is a varmint stalker.

I had a mod 70 winchester stealth 2 and it shot terrible the I looked in the barrel and it was rusted and pitted so I sent it back to winchester and they tried to tell me it was up to their specs! I told them it wasn't up to mine and I could buy a cheap junk gun and the barrels aren't pitted and rusted well after a lot of yelling they sent me a new one with a barrel that was in great shape but I still couldn't get it to shoot a half inch at 100 so i called winchester again and they told me they only guaranty 1-1/2 inch groups and if I wanted smaller groups to buy the coyote model it's guarantied to shoot under a inch.I said you got to be kidding your swat rifle that is made for saving peoples lives is only guarantied to shoot 1-1/2 inches but the gun for shooting varmints is guarantied to shoot under an inch!Whats wrong with this picture?Also I had alot of gas leakage around the neck that may have been the problem,the cases would come out real sooty to the shoulder

Mate thats very poor quality control. Never heard any dramas like that before with winchester so it might of been very bad luck!!!

The only ones that I have heard of with any dramas have been Winchesters. Mate has exactly the same rifle as me and it has fired 300 or so rounds and it shoots just as good as mine. We use them most weeks so time will tell I spose

Err I thought this post was about scopes!?

Anyway the scope I have on my 6mmRem VLS is a 5 - 15*50 Bushnell 3200 Elite.
As well as vermin hunting

I also shoot "FLY" at the local SSAA range. With this scope I can usually see a 6mm bullet hole in the target (pale yellow paper, red rings and fly) at 250 metres. This year the "Fly" targets are set at 300 metres and if the day is a bit overcast I can't pick out the bullet holes.

How much clarity do you need at what price? Leopolds are a very good scope but how much money buys an acceptable amount of quality& clarity

3.5-15x56 Nightforce on a 1517 Ansultz 17HMR
2.5-10x50 Nightforce on a rem 700 LSS 300 win mag
Switch the 3.5-15x56 on to my Krico .222 for target and varmint work
Will pick up a Leupold or Bushnell 3200/4200 for permant work on the annie at some stage.

I use Leupold VX1 4-12x40 on my varmint rifles, Iam happy with the job they do.

Im looking at getting a vx1 4-12 x 40 for my new 22-250 special varmint!!

I have one in 3-9 on my 30/06 and I recon thats pretty good too. Not quite as good as my vx3, but it didnt cost as much either!!!

Optically there's nothing much between the Sightron and the loopy. And I like the Sightron better as my loopy 36x is the 'old model' not the new style with the side focus.

I think it's about 1 ounce heavier but has a smaller dot.

It's more user freindly than my loopy in regards to the focusing adjustment (not winding for a couple of turns) and it has 1/8" clicks making it easier to group in the centre of the mothball, my loopy seems to move 1" in 3 clicks @100yds and it annoys the crap out of me.

Theres a few of them about at the moment being trialed by some of the best benchresters in the country, and I have seen some tiny little groups shot with them. If they are good enough for them, they are more than enough for me.

I think last Nationals, Sightrons were used to win the HV 100 & 200 yd events, only going off memory but they won a few other yardages too I think.

Oh yeah and the price is bloody good in comparison.
