Tenterfield Fox Whistle

Hello, First post here. I'm a Yank ignorant as hell about whistles. I'm seeking advice on the Tenterfield Fox whistles. Are the Sylva's a good whistle? The original Tenterfield's sold by John Cooper seem to be the most popular and traditional whistle in use. Mr. John Cooper owner of Tenterfield Fox Whistles only accepts AUD funds, so I'm wracking my brain trying to figure out a solution to purchase some of these. Thanks for any advice and help you can offer. If anyone has questions on American calls, guns, scopes, hunting techniques please fire away. I hunt fox, coyote, bobcat and crows here in Kentucky. Love to talk varmint hunting, and appreciate every hunter the world over. If I can set a while with you by the fire, I would be honored to share and learn. Cheers.

Do you have the button style whistles over in the US? These are widespread and cheap right across Australia.

My most successful whistle over the years has been the button see pic
Its only the last 2 years I have been using the Tenterfield
(With good results )
One advantage it has over the button is the volume you can generate on a windy day

I have been using a Tenterfield for about a month and am pretty happy with the results so far This fella was panting pretty hard as he had a steep climb up to me

The fox is laying under the fence and was coming at a fast pace until he met the lead shower.

Thank-you so much for the warm welcome mates. Your posts on the whistles were very informative, and appreciated. Great pics by missed, God's Country you hunt in, Australia is a beautiful land. One poster asked if I had tried a button whistle. Not at this point, but have a Wham button whistle ordered from England where it is held in high regard. Anxious to try that one soon! Had the good fortune of receiving a genuine Tenterfield Fox Whistle today. My hunting mate here in the states posted one to my home from Abbey Archery in Sydney. What a gem! Had it squeeling and screaming after about 10 minutes of trial and error. No doubt it will be murder on the local varmints. They haven't heard anything like the Tenterfield. Superb Sound! The most effective predator calls on this side of the pond for red fox are the open reed calls such as the crit 'r'call mini, verminator tweety, red river calls vigilante, and the infamous tally-ho. All of these are pure murder on red fox. With the open reed you literally have a musical instrument in your hands, capable of the most raspy of squeels, all the way up to the highest of rodent squeeks. But you want the truth? While these are wonderful calls I believe the Tenterfield Fox Whistle produces a superior sound. Can't wait to try it on Charlie. Cheers, Michael Moore

Will do Sako .22 -.250, Just did a bit of study on the Tenterfield. Seems no one really knows just whom exactly came up with the design. Named for the town of Tenterfield, Australia. No matter though, the concept is genius. Cheers, Michael

I would say the Tenterfield is just a modern version of the jam tin whistle. This was made by cutting the bottom out of a jam tin, punch holes & fold....then blow

Yep, and its amazing how many foxes the old jam tin whistles brought to their doom. Most kids when I was a youngster had one or two that they had made.
