what fl sizer are you using ?

Post by LoneRider »

i would like to know what your using to fl size your cases.
i just got a simplex vise type for 308.
ive done 7 cases and my hands are ready to drop off from the vice handle.

are these things supposed to be that hard ?
im using graphite powder to lube, after trying one case with case lube.[both just as hard]
the liquid lube was cleaned out before the powder was used btw.

Had one of those vice type FL dies years ago for a 222, I used to bash them in with a plastic mallet, didn't have a vice, worked ok but took a lot of elbox grease. I now use proper dies in a Redding T7 Turret press for when I FL using dies from a few different manufacturers.

Lee and Redding dies and Lee Press never needed that much elbow grease! Even their hand press can do swede cases no drama.

I use a Redding Body die for my 308,if I have a batch of once fired cases, fired from different rifles,ex rifle club brass,I use a Lee Full Length die in a Redding 7/8 X 14 press. For lube I use anhydrous lanolin or Lanotech grease.

In the past I used a Simplex vice die, with a solid 6" vyce, found it easy to use,but slow.At the time I used normal chassis grease for lube.Try sizing not all the way down, just enough for the cases to fit the rifle.A flat washer or two on the head of the die should do it if your die is on the short size.To remove the case I put a 5/8" nut on the case head end and pushed the case out with the vyce.Hammering seemed too drastic for me.

Probably not applicable in your case, but make sure the threads of the vyce are clean and well lubricated also.

I have lee for the 223
RCBS and Redding for the 30-30
RCBS for the 308
I started with a small RCBS press was hard work so I purchased a lee press now love it I use RCBS lube too much makes it hard to pull out again
