Re: been to the range.
Take your time in setting that sling up, once your happy with the initial setting - get down on the ground and put in on and get into a firing position and take it off again about 10 times.
It will soon reveal to be in either a good position or poor one. Remember your fore hand going numb is sorta normal too though Have you gone single point or double point sling?
I found when iwas first starting that the double point sling gave me better stability, and then as I refined my technique - I was able to transition to the single point easier.
Also think about your bolt cycle movements, will you leave the butt in your shoulder or take the rifle out of the shoulder to reload?
Take the time to familiarize yourself with all your shooting gear too, for example mark the stem on your spotting scope at the right height for you for ease of repetitiveness, and so you are not craning your neck to see through the eye piece - a shooting hat is also a great addition to your kit.
Play with the positioning of your ammo box & shooters log to see what position for each is comfortable and within easy reach (don't forget a spare pen - you will have one roll away on you )
Another thing to contemplate is what type of shooting log you will use - the "Normal" little green book, or something else - the SA F Class downloadable combined ICFRA plotsheets are my personal favourite at the moment - (Don't tell them "dark side" shooters - but I think they are bloody good bits of kit )

Well that's about all I can think of for the moment, hope some of the diatribe is helpful.
Hope the last of the 'smith work is done very quickly and your on the mound soon.

Re: been to the range.
havent got a spotting scope yet, figured i would just use the clubs old jobby till i got one.
no idea about the sling its a "simetra sling " quite possible its just single point. again
but to the shoulder during reload,i dont move it away at any time [just easier that way.
hand going numb....yup,i get that with the clubs rifle.
i just use one of the multitude of peak caps i have on hand.
everything is usually with in easy reach.
never thought about a "little green book"
hmmm.

Re: been to the range.
no shootin for me tomorrow.
smith didnt get the job done.he has to wait for a die to turn up so he can put more thread on the recoil lug/sling bolt.

Re: been to the range.
Thankfully wasn't raining here yesterday though it did rain pretty steady for a good 4 hours last night.
Wind was pretty twitchy at the 300 mound blowing straight down the range but at the targets was changing from the east to south east. First string 57.2 second only shot a 53.1 I blew it on the wind ok for hight though.
was a PB 110.3 mind you the A graders only scored another 3 points so I wasn't far off the mark. Bloody happy with that.

Re: been to the range.
Next to no wind . . . . usually only happens during the cease fire to change out the markers, then comes howling and swirling with a touch of fishtail, screaming back.
But good to see you are having fun (read not disheartened yet by the wind)
77.1 is nothing to sneeze at, have seen A graders do worse at times mate.
