Should I stick with tradition and buy the kid her first rifle as a cz manufactured in the year of her birth or should I change to a lithgow.?
Do the lithgows even have their year of manufacture on them?
Thoughts?

First gun we bought for our eldest was for his 21st. I think we set a bad precedent.

Don't worry, there is only 2 of them isn't there?
My mate who turns 46 in June still loves his left handed ruger in 270 his parents gave him for his 21st and there would not be to many people he has shown it to that did not know where he got it from.
It is a rifle he will never sell!

Was going to do something similar for my girls if they have an interest in guns/hunting - was thinking of buying a gun when they get their minors permit or full license. I do like the idea of having a firearm with the same manufacture year that they did

Go for the quality item Dave, CZ all the way. Tooooooo much plastic on the Lithgow. Biggest issue that I have with them is the bolt can close BEFORE it is fully forward, bit of a design fault in my opinion.

At the shot show they had a timber stocked lithgow - think it was laminate - whatever it was it looked awesome but as a heirloom type rifle I would go blued/timber as it will never go out of fashion

this is to decock the bolt , it is a design feature

CZ for sure. Anything that's to be an heirloom should be as plastic and stainless free as possible in my opinion, especially if it's a .22LR

Try telling that to some poor unfortunate rabbit shooter who tries to get off five or six quick shots and each time the bolt closes before its in place. Didn't happen to me, but I can see it happening in the heat of battle, so to speak.

Im not bagging out the rifle or the design, just pointing out what I feel is a failure. Working the bolt normally and it would be a problem.
