Did a little more on it today. I went back and used a 1/2 round file to knock down the worst of the pins, the 2 front bottom ones where there is more compound curves. They are no where perfect but better than before -just something to be more mindful of on the next knife.
Went back through all the grits on the places touched up with the file then did the whole lot in 600grit. Gave it a wipe with a damp rag before church and then when I got home I hit it with 600 again to knock of any raised bits.
I thought I had a tin of the same oil/wax Kickenback posted up but when I got it out I realised it was the Scandinavian oil - which is just danish oil - should do the job anyway.
Using a que tip I wiped the oil all over and kept wiping more on as it soaked in over about 5-10mins then gave it a rub with a rag to get the excess off then set it aside to dry and will give it sand and another coat tomorrow.

When I read the first post I was gonna do the predictable thing and offer to buy it as you said, to recover material costs on your first attempt that may be crappy.

But if I made something that good on my first attempt that would be one of my treasured possessions.

We'll done. Very we'll done

The knife has had a few more coats of oil with numerous sandings and it coming up well - most of the grain has filled in etc. I reckon I am going to give it a coat of wax, sharpen er up and call it done. The finish has come up well but could definitely be better though my wife was quite impressed with how it has turned out. My old man is dropping in on sunday on his way to Melbourne so I will see what tips he can give me, would also love to sit down with Missed and talk about rubbing wood  I mean the art of a good oil finish.
At work today so I will get some pics and put them up when I get home. Learnt plenty of stuff - onwards and upwards from here. Hopefully give it a go on a fox or bunny over the easter long weekend :D
I also ordered some leather to make a sheath so I will put up some pics of that process in here too.
Made a start on Knife No2
Here is a pic of the rough fit of the handles

Thenlast night I glued them up so I can start shaping that one tonight - going to look wicked - there is so much depth to the acrylic scales once they are sanded and polished - hopefully I can do it justice.

Cheers

been doing some more work on the black and red handled knife. Spent last night getting rough shape done, bit on the belt sander, then onto files, then hand sading with 80grit, 120, 240, then 400.
Then this morning I did the wet sanding - 600grit, 800, 1200 then some polish on the felt pad on the dremel.

Fark me that is a lot of sanding, thumbs start to cramp up and I reckon I could rob a bank and they wouldn't find any finger prints but starts to seem worth it once the polish is wiped off
