243 in to 260 Rem

Post by big G »

Hi guys.
A mate lent me his 260 Rem the other day to play with.
My question is .
Can I just run my once fired Lapua 243 cases in to his full length resizing die, then fire form.
Hey presto .?...If that works.
?I don't need to by expensive factory ammo,$62 for 20 .

Yes that will work just fine.
Neck thickness is not an issue when expanding case mouths. Becomes a problem the other way ie 260 down to 243.

What Rinso said.
I accidentley made .308 from .260 Lapua brass with one cartridge case.
Worked fine as a .308 and resized back down with no problems either.

How about from 308 to 260?
308 lap cases relatively cheap.

I pick up a lot of 308 cases and neck them straight to 260 in one pass. No neck thickness issues.

308 -260 works fine with winchester or rem brass. 308 lapua needs to be neck turned. I use palma brass for my 260 AI.

Guess it also depends on the chamber they are being run in too. Could fireforming 243 brass smooth out any thicker spots in the necks??

My Tikka shot one of its best groups with 243 Highlander brass...

1. Expand brass with K&M expander
2. Deprime with 223 Collect die (without the collect in)
3. Prime
4. Charge
5. Seat with this nifty set up...

6. Use fingers to pull sunken bullets tight back into the necks
7. Carefully single feed and FIRE :rifle:

Whilst it may be possible it would only be 1:1,000,000. If fire forming even out case necks we wouldn't need to neck turn for concentricity.

When downsizing brass ie 308 to 260 you may have a simple one pass no neck turn required or you may not.
In some instances neck turning becomes necessary as the case necks thicken. So you should always check these things when prepping brass.
