Ideally we'd reduce the errors in the projectiles to begin with.
Need some sort of adjustable bobbin that can drive the bullet or sensor back and forth. Keep thinking overhead reel but should really flip everything into the vertical plane and stand the bullet on the base point up. Rotate the bullet, slide the sensor up and down etc. Effectively you could plot a project and dump the output values into a spreadsheet and graph a profile from that.
Are you considering a drive mechanism for the unit as is? A mini USB turntable tone arm set-up would be cool -

Effectively you're making the projectile "sing" if you go back to basics and you're looking for the ones that can hold a note, you could be the first person to record the sound of projectile?
But I'll let you get back to the task at hand and look forward to the next update, certainly the update where you are thinking about parting with a unit.
