I forget how much 2207 I use with 40gn bullets, though I am getting 3800fps and no pressure signs. As for pressure, if the cases are not expanding excessively, if I'm not getting ejector marks on my cases, and if the primer pockets are staying tight then what's it matter if you are running at 40,000psi or 65,000psi? The case is the weak link with front locking modern bolt actions, so if it's not showing signs of distress then you're right to go.

The other thing is have a look at the Max psi for the .223 Vs. the .222, and the .270 Vs. .257 Roberts. There are lots of cartridges that have low pressure limits for different reasons, but in good actions there is no reason they can not be loaded to the same higher pressure as other cartridges based on that case. As an example, there is no reason you can't load a .257 Rob to the same pressures you load a .270 to,when used in say a rem 700.

The rifle in question that I'm using is a Bergara Scout (break action single shot) I'm far from an expert on the matter but it looks strong as the proverbial and I reckon it would take a far bit bit before it cried enough.

How long is the barrel that you're getting 3800fps out of Steve?

Waldo if it is like my T3 the load will probably be like mine at 22.5 gr 2207 for 3550 fps with the 40 BTs. The 21.4 gr max load in the ADI book is very conservative.

Yeh TZ, pretty damn close I had 3546fps for 22.5g 2207 out of mine.

I chucked a few of the Sierra 40g'ers down range this morning, 22.0g came up the winner at this stage but I need to go thru and have a close look. I had 5 of each load ready to go (22.0, 22.2, 22.5g) and was generally getting 2 out of the first 3 OK then throwing a couple gggrrrrr (I generally stop at 3 shot groups so as not to throw my confidence ).

The MTM front rest I use doesn't seem to support the little forend of the scout all that well. Open to suggestions of something to lay over the rest to make it a little better?

Regardless it shows some promise so I'll persevere with them and maybe just extract the digit and shoot it a little better

I'm pretty sure when I tried them when I first got the rifle I was a fair bit further off the lands so I may play with seating depth a bit too.

don't know how those break action guns go with accuracy generally, but I would think that was reasonably good.

Camel hint of the day..............when you are shooting that rifle with that load, don't fire the second one, just take it back out of the rifle and put number three in, then you will hit the dot both times.

That's a classic, well played

The little Scout has previously put 3 shots into half inch on a few occasions so it is remarkably capable (a bit unlike it's often inconsistent owner)

When I first got it I tried some factory stuff and it put 3 x 45g Winchesters into 0.45", 3 x 50g Feds into 1.2" . At the time I figured if it shot 45g better than 50g it should shoot 40g even better

The 40's seems to go best even though the 45g's were pretty tidy too.

40g also fits in well with its safe buddies, so I have 25g, 40g, 75g, 100g, 150g, 165, 405g to cover most eventualities

Gotta admit sometimes I feel a bit left out because I don't have one of those common as mud 20cals

Ok, I will preface this by saying I am loading for a Sportco Martini 222, not rimmed, but rimless. But I just did some load testing the other day, 40gn Nosler BT Varmints, 19.5gn 2207, Win SRP, 5 shots 1.1inch at 100m.

50gn PPy JSP, 19.8gn of 2207 Win SRP, 3 shot group .791 at 100m.

Not the same speed league as you lads, but happy with the accuracy.

You got a good range of weights there.

The barrel is a 24" long stainless sprinter, screwed into a Rem 700.

My 222 shoots the 40 gr V-max a little betterer(TAD)than 40 B/t and that is with 22.5gr of BM1 at 3440 fps.

Gee, thanks big fella, don't tell me I got something right at last. Just finished prepping some more 22PPC cases, am going to see how good those 40gn Vmax jobbies go out of it.
