Lightforce Suction cup replacement

Post by CZ550 »

G'day All,

Just wondering who the bloke was making the magnetic mounts to replace the suction caps for the Lightforce roof mount bar? Have done a search and turned nothing up.

Would really love to get some given the dust around at the moment!

Regards,

I think my replacement magnet came from a busted magnetic Amber flashing light

I cant comment on Chappo's mounting system as I haven't had a look at it. I did get some magnets from the bloke who Jacko9 was talking about, to use on the Big Iron door mount that I use for my shooting rest, while the magnet is a very good idea and does the job very well, I would just pass on a warning about the very thin rubber boots that cover the magnet as protection for your paint job. They are way too thin and tear easily, mine only lasted a couple of nights, I had replacements sent out from Keith free of charge, which I would say is excellent service, he even sent me 6 but I haven't used them. I replaced the rubber boots with duct tape which doesn't tear very easily.
Another point to be wary of, is that no matter what you do, very fine dust will get under the magnet boot and the motion of driving along will product rub marks on your paint, I don't think you can stop this happening no matter what you do. I now put a couple of layers of duct tape on the door of my ute where the magnet sticks to the door. I imagine that having the light mounted on the roof by these magnets would cause the same problem.

This isn't meant as a criticism of the system, just a warning to all who are either using or thinking of using them.

Keith Perry is the blokes name who most people have dealt through on AHN, his handle is 'bushchook' on there, if you have an ahn login, I would suggest contacting him there, if not, above are the details to his business. I have not purchased them from Keith (although need to, as my suction cups are buggered, I just need to pay off a few things first  ) but Keith is a really good bloke, have had a bit to do with him on advice on Agricultural careers, etc.

I got two sets of these:

h ttp://www.ebay.com.au/itm/2-of-Vehicle-MagPad ... 2a37209aac

And mounted 2 of them on alloy brackets, one inner and one outer. The result is a rock solid mount that doesn't bounce off in the paddock. The warning above about scratching paintwork, and picking up abrasive material also applies..
