Without knowing the circumstances it would look that way but I should point out it is in no way a reflection on their equipment as a rusty old girl was handed to them half hour earlier. They cleaned her up and checked it over and to appease the crowd played it safe.

So I got out to do more testing here are the results:


Conditions were still sunny and a bit of mirage.
The 73 and 74gr loads were in the high 2700fps
The 74.5 were on the mid 2800's and the 75gr averaged out at 2900fps.

No pressure signs still but I think the 75 gr load may be worth sticking to got our top 700yds or so. I feel the horizontal spread was likely my doing in the mirage.

Would love the experts opinions.

Nice work Kieth - that 75gr load is an 11.5% velocity increase for an 8.7% increase in powder over the 69gr load.

Why change to the Kiwi 20c comparison tool from the Aussie 10c comparison tool, is there something we should know about!

Thanks mate. I think I'll shoot a few more groups with this load and see if it can group better. But I'll likely load up the rest of my brass with this load and see how it goes.

The real world BC, from the little blue book of lies and propaganda. Brian Litz claims to have done this with Doppler radar, no reason to disbelieve him. The G1 BC for the 178 Amax is 0.469, which is a bit lower than the 0.495 claimed by Hornady.
If you do your come ups right, you should now be able to get a real world MV.

Cynical, me? Nah, just a healthy lack of respect, specially when you try their new twist rate tool, which tries to tell me that a 105gr 6mm in a 8 twist barrel will be unstable, what a crock of smelly stuff. Also, they love to push the high BC is best barrow, what for? a pissing contest. BC counts for nothing, accuracy counts for everything. I don't care if a bullet has a BC of .9, if it's 35 units on the Juenke, or you can't get 10 the same out of a box, it isn't worth the lead it contains.

Pity...that's gold right there!

Always thought the book could do with a few more references and maybe a critical peer review or two wouldn't hurt.

Ever tried running a few of the the measured designs through the G7 Form factor prediction equation at the back of the book. Could do with a little tuning.
