Can't disagree with levers being used as scout rifles, history has proven that...and I like levers :D
Give it a crack mate might surprise you.
Mine will hold around 4" at 300m don't know how it groups past that as haven't shot it at paper past 300m.
No trouble to ring a 6" gong consistently at 300, regular hits on a 12" rock at 400, even had a crack at the 700-800y gongs at one of the Yass get togethers, cant say we hit it, the wind was killing us but we went bloody close.
18"x24" at 450 I think you would be getting regular hits

What rifle are you using? Been tempted with the Marlins but worried about the Remlin quality.

My Henry and IAC aren't going to hit anything out that far :)

I was surprised by the accuracy of 220`s marlin firty firty

I reckon it would make a good cartridge if necked to 20 cal.

If 20 cal was any good, Tikka would offer it. :stir:

Older marlin I picked up off here about 4 years ago for $200, pre crossbolt safety, it looks rough as guts but shoots like stink, factory lever evolutions shoot around 1", Ftx reloads even better. Came with an artic fox 3-9 mildot scope fitted, with my zero 1 dot puts it dead on at 300, 2 dots very close at 400.
Best $200 I've ever spent, shot everything from rabbits to sambar, won a few trophies with in various comps even shot CLAS nationals with it.

I like the steyr scouts a lot, but they don't make them in lh so I don't own one. Less impressed with the GSR. In the end I got a sauer 202 with an 18.5 inch hard wood barrel, that weighs 3.3kg and is as handy as the steyr scout. It doesn't have the forward mounted scope and the same mag capacity but being a lh shooter it will have to do.

Whilst Cooper was very prescriptive about what he wanted in the scout concept, my view it is about a very handy general purpose rifle which can be used for most things most of the time. Which is pretty much what I've got.

As much as I want to agree with 220 (because I love my marlin 3030 as well), how about customising a BLR, in whatever caliber you want, into the rifle you want?

Sure the triggers take a bit of work, but otherwise?

Just chucking my 2c into the ring...........

Each to their own, but I reckon the whole scout concept look like shit. I have a particular dislike to removable magazines, especially long 10 shot ones that hang down so far under the action. They look to me like rifles for the wanna be tactards, I very much doubt the average buyer of one of these rifles would ever empty the magazine in a hunting situation. But if it sells, I spose its up to the purchaser.

Instead of making a 22/30-30 find a nice clean savage 99 in 22 hi power, plenty out there. re barrel to 219 zipper or 219 Donaldson Wasp, if you want shoot heavier bullets get a faster twist barrel. Rotory magazine, lovely balance, makes a nice walk about rifle.

Just a thought

Good lord have I converted someone here

It works a treat mate, know a few blokes in the US who went that way with 99s that had been non factory drilled & tapped.
Though the days of picking up 22 h.p for $250.00 seem long gone :(
