I havent fired either of those particular models but I own a Tikka Hunter (awaiting paperwork) and a Rem sps and if i was to do it all again I would have two tikka's.

The rem is a great knock about rifle and is ideal as a workhorse rifle but so are the tikkas and the difference in build quality and overall feel means that for around the same $ you get so much more with the tikka.

Both will do the job and both are good rifles, go to a shop (if you are able) and hold both, decide which suits you best and buy that.

if you want to spend$$$ and customise it buy the rem. Accurate 'as is' factory rifle, go Tikka.

Had a T3 Hunter and a BDL, just my opinion from limited personal experience

As Trevor said if you want to acurise it later go the rem, if your like me and just want a rifle you can by from new take out shoot things, come home clean, get it out and go do it all again then look at the tikka.

I have a T3 Varmint stainless, i shot this of a bipod with a jacket under the rear on a day with some wind, its only 3 shots but Factory ammo is bloody dear and i would rather smoke foxs.

Cant wait to load it up a bit

Compare the two side by side if possible, note the quality of fit and finish, balance of rifle, materials used etc, and check and recheck every nuance of both, and buy the tikka, regardless of price difference

for similar money i would also have a look at the howa varmint as well as some of the savage varmint. both of those will shoot pretty well from all reports, my cheapo stevens 200 .223 (cheap savage) averages 5 shots into 3/4 inch with me pulling the trigger and from talking to other savage/stevens owners this one doesn't seem to be odd one

Havent heard a bad word said about savages. Very popular on the 204um, great accuracy rep and the accutrigger is a good thing.

i just bought a T3 today in 6.5x55 so wasnt recommending them just for someone elses money!
