Tikka T3 Varmint 300win Semi-custom
As you guys know I recently bought at 300win and the so-called long range rig on a budget has evolved into a semi-custom job
The gun is a Tikka T3 Varmint in 300Win.
It has a custom muzzle brake and has been fluted by Simpson Sport's Gunsmith Graeme down at Port Kembla they do good work down there so give Shane a call if you need this sort of work done or even barrel chambering/fitting.
I have also fitted a Limbsaver prefit recoil pad and between that and the brake it can be shot all day. We sell the recoil pads at my work message me if you want one as they are top bits of gear.
It was then Cerakoted by Adamjp. I highly recommend his work!
It has a 20MOA EGW rail with Leupold PRW rings holding a Vortex Viper PST 6-24x50 FFP MOA scope.
I've just started load development and it is showing some promising accuracy as Tikkas always do but it still needs work as the velocities are quite slow with 178gr Amax and 2213sc powder.
So far it has been fun getting it up to this point now I just need to find a good load and get some more rounds down range.
My two gripes about the Tikka as an LR platform is that if you want it to be a repeater the Tikka's magazine is far too short for heavier pills and the 1in11 twist for the 308 and 300win is too slow and needs to be 1in10.

I'm about 700g overweight to qualify for F-Open and there is plenty of meat in the axle to grind out before I start swiss-cheesing the stock.kjd wrote:Yeah it was offered to me for cheap and I thought why not, it'll be an excuse to cerakote it lolaaronraad wrote:Fluted...as in fluted the factory barrel?kjd wrote: The gun is a Tikka T3 Varmint in 300Win.

Why not? They all get fluted after they are drilled and rifled.aaronraad wrote:Fluted...as in fluted the factory barrel?kjd wrote: The gun is a Tikka T3 Varmint in 300Win.

I had this one done for a bloke at work last week. And then Cerakoted it in Graphite Black.
He is stoked with the finished product.

Awesome looking rifle Keith. I did watch the build with interest and was impressed with how it worked out.

Nice looking rig that turned out to be. Like the break, what did you do with your HSS break ? I can just get 3.400 in my magazine, but I may be able to extend it a bit.

Better mate, doesn't send the sound and pressure backwards like the HSS, I think it also reduces recoil more than the HSS and looks a shitload better.
