I'm heading north later this month to chase Barra and Jacks and always had trouble with the connection
between main line [braid] and heavy leader clunking up the rod so heard of a knot called the FG knot
the GT fisherman use so Google was my friend and after some practice mastered it BUT found it very
awkward with my arthritic thumbs then found a tool to help, a quick call to Elite Tackle and 2 days later
and a bag arrived with my flash new tool.
Not sure in what order the pics are but there is a pic of the first knot I tied with it another of one with
a short Bimini twist and the tool.
The tool comes with instructions and a DVD that even I could follow.
The knots in the pics are 30lb braid and 45lb Schneider leader.
Cheers

I learnt this know for the purpose of running it on my cod gear, but now use it for all my fishing. Makes running micro guides on my trout outfit much more enjoyable!

So I am guessing the old left over right, do a twist, right over left, do a twist, is now off the menu.

See you can teach an old dog new tricks. :)

Actually I will be using this knot for most of my fishing,
I cast it through the guides a fair bit today and looks as good as
when I tied it.

Cheers

Closest to that would be platting a double?

For me a clove hitch, reef knot, and maybe a bowline are the limit...thanks to my childhood in scouting.

For fishing, as long as it hauls up the fish. It doesn't know or care about my knots.

Thanks ol 55, that joining knot has always put me off of using braid. Might reconsider in the future for the Snapper season now

Dr G
I've been using a double uni knot to join the mainline to a fluorocarbon leader for years,
not any more this will be my go to joining knot, I sill will probably tie a short bimini twist in
the lighter braid.
The knotter tool certainly makes it easier for me as I have some arthritis in both my thumbs.
Love to get into some of those monster SA Reddies, my be some day.

Google FG knot for different ways to tie it.
Cheers

Have a drink and the shaking will stop mate. ( Alternatively- just do a Camel and claim there wasn't a birthday today so you needed to bump your post count somehow!)

I agree with Gary, some bloody good fish in that lot.

Tex, your little baited hook was noted, and then promptly ignored. :homer:
