Have done around 10 coats of Johnsons beeswax floor polish into it now, really brought up a nice shine to it. Fitted a Limbsaver pad yesterday.

And one with a spare action sitting in there to give me an idea of how it will look with the blued action and barrel in place.
I ended up giving it around 80 goes with the oil and 1000 grit wet and dry, then another 10 or so just rubbing the oil in with the palm of my hand.
I think it came out rather nicely, very happy with the end result. Of course it looks better in person but the photos give you a pretty good idea of how it ended up.

Re: Stock re-finish
Had an eventful day today, heard that there was a bloke doing gunsmithing work in Griffith now, I rang the gunshop there the other day and talked to him and arranged to go over today and see about swapping the 338/06 barrel off the Churchill Mauser action that it came on, and fitting to my spare Zastaba M70 action. Reasons being, adjustable trigger, drop out floorplate, and I think they are a stronger action as they don't have the thumbhole cut-out that the original Mauser has on the left hand side to aid loading from stripper clips.
Got over there at around 10 am and found him in his back shed where he has a small but very serviceable workshop and all his gear set up. What a champion bloke he turned out to be, but then that would be expected as he is ex navy Fitter and machinist by trade and very particular with his work. He took the barrel off the Mauser action, checked how much headspace was in the action, then checked how much was on the Zastava, only 3 thou difference. Which is good enough for a hunting rifle and wont be an issue when I adjust the full length die a very small tad. The job was finished in less than 10 minutes, it was the other 1 hour 50 minutes talking guns and stuff that took the major time.
Fitted the action and stock this arvo on return, just the bedding to do. Lynx stud bases should be in the post and on the way.
He showed me some of his work, only one word describes his work, "Outstanding". He is a target shooter, but that can be forgiven as he does also shoot foxes with his 22/250 AI that he built. The 6mm Dasher was a real eye buldger, 30 inches of gleaming Maddco stainless number 9 barrel sticking out the front of a Barnard action. And the thumbhole stock was accordingly drool worthy. An as new Sako 243 A11 with the most gorgeous factory wood I have seen on a standard sporter rifle was also dragged out for me to run my disbelieving eyes over, nice dark timber with a real tiger stripe running through it for the whole length, the locking lugs, magazine follower and other places that usually show up use, showed that the action had probably only been worked back and forth a very small amount of times. It is for sale, if anyone is interested I can give you a phone number.
I also gave him the details of the forum, he knows a few blokes on here already, so with luck he will join up and put up some photos for you to drool over. Sometimes wish I had a better phone than the old Samsung flip phone so I could take some photos. Next time I will definitely be taking my camera.
Also got him to agree to build my 17/222, the reamer is being ordered and that is the last step in that journey as far as gathering bits a pieces for the build.
