Re: What am I trying to achieve?
going to, just wanted to play around with some stuff I grabbed out of the bin first.
My father came around to borrow something whilst i was annealing it and being the top bloke that he is offered to put it in his furnace for me to save me the effort.

Re: What am I trying to achieve?
After I explained to him that I did not want the head or lower body softened only the neck shoulder area, being the correction errection type that he is after a few questions and answers he had to explain to me that as I only heat it to about 750F because any hotter and it is to soft, that in fact I am not annealing the brass but only heat treating it. Yep thanks for your help, here is what you came for, bye

Re: What am I trying to achieve?
After annealing it I sized it down to 7mm08 simply because I had the die and wanted to see how soft it was, I own both 6.5 and 6x47 lap dies and was going to use the 6.5 next and then anneal again but thought screw it the brass did not cost me anything(picked up from the range), ill go straight for 6mm so I tried 1 in a 243 die when that worked I screwed that die out and sized from 7mm straight to 6x47. Stuffed the first couple up as I used to much lube and cratered the shoulders(yeah when fired they will blow back out but that is not what I am looking for). Once I got the lube correct was easy. Have not fired any yet so no idea how they will last. The next lot I will anneal twice, once on the neck and once on the shoulder as my torch is pretty fine and this time the 6x47 formed easier than the 7mm as I annealed down the case a bit more than I did the neck. Probably not the best way but that is what I had so that is what I did.
