and I meant it when I said send me the bill for the replacement part. It felt like a very long few minutes looking at that bit flopping whilst you finished your shots thinking I have to tell him I broke it

If I had to guess I would say the temperature of the ammunition and the chamber had something to do with your speed and poi variations and as everything settled down to normal operating temps your speed and groups settled down.
An experiment for you to try is fire 4-5 quick shots over the chrony then leave one in the chamber for a minute or so and then see if there is a speed and poi shift.

I believe it was, But the JAB did exactly the same and the 257 was faster!

Makes sense as 3600 is faster than the manuals say it should be and the other two rifles are right about where the manuals say they should be

So Trev, how is the mighty 257 going, we haven't had much of a report on it yet. You are a bit slack mate.

It works. it whacks the 350m gong easy enough and I hit the 550m gong twice. I actually used the ballistic calculator on my phone and without fiddling with the dials guesstimated how far over the target 31 inches would be!

Now the phone had died by the time we took it out to around 700m so thats what I'm using as the excuse for not hitting it !

Going by the magnetospeed its getting around the published speed for the 85gn nbt max load of 67gn 2209 which is 3700fps. Now if Missed uses around 40gn in his 6x47l to push a 75vm slightly faster I can hardly call it an efficient cartridge but hey, I wanted one.

It groups well but you have to hold the fore end down. I wasnt holding it tight enough for 2 out of a 5 shot group and you can see 3 shots in about half an inch and the two "jumpers" a further half inch high and right.

The action is smoothing up but I still dont like the trigger (send me the instructions Mick and I will try to kill it!)

That .257 Weatherby is a pussycat to shoot, the 9.3x62 has more recoil.

well I like port. But two maybe 3 max little tiny port glasses is enough to start getting sickening, must be my body's way of protecting itself.
So Mick had a 5ltr flagon of really nice port and I had plastic WINE glasses and since it tasted so nice I thought I would have a beer between ports so it wouldnt get sickening. What a really really bad idea it is try to out smart your body's defences. Worst hangover for a long time

Nice to have met Raven Mick762 and Glen.

Glen, the gong frame had two more holes in it. I think we all had the windage right as the furrows that started up to 50m before the gong were in line with it!

Raven took a few shots to dial it in but we were all impressed with him pinging the truck brake drum at 215m with his 22.

I had a go with Mick's cooper 243, nice rilfe but it had us baffled. I put three shots into 1 hole at 100m but the hole was half inch high and half inch right. Mick thought it was sighted an inch and a half high. Then he fired 2 shots one each on either side of the vertical black cross thru the target an inch high. so I tried and put two more shots in between his to make a four shot big hole spot on windage wise an inch high. How does that happen?

The gong I have in a tree I paced out at 350m, pleased to have it confirmed at 352m with a range finder. It took a bit of a hammering.

None of us will represent Australia at clay target shooting.

And the hole in those 9.3 ACPs is very impressive!!

We have to do it again and hopefully see some more gongs and more blokes ( and less port for me)

It was a great trip. Really enjoyed meeting some of the guys from here and getting the chance to play with some beautiful rifles.

Different shooters with position and eyes. I shoot myartini to an inch high my brother who is a lefty shoots it low or something so can be weird. The only other thing is scope issues maybe?

Interesting point, and one that is often not considered when looking at a scope purchase. Different eyes see things differently, even through the same scope.

I have my 22LR setup just the way I like it, but when I let other people shoot it the groups are about the same but POI varies. I put it down to their eyes, my setup, and familiarity with the rifle.

In case you have no access:

Action out of the stock
Barrel pointing to your right.

Top left is sear engagement. Screw it in to make it lighter.
Bottom left is for over travel.
Top right is sear pressure. Screw it out.
Bottom right is safety adjustment.Screw it in to take out the slack.

What I would do is screw the top left in until it slam fires or wont cock then screw it out until neither of these things happen.
Unscrew the top right as far as you can and still do the lock nut up. (This is the spring I cut a coil off)
Screw the bottom left in until you cant pull the trigger when cocked. Then keep backing it off until you can.
Then if you are happy with everything do the bottom right up until there is no slack in the safety but will still go on and off.

Its still heaier than my varmint rilfes but its very usable and still crisp!
