Crush Washer

G'day guys where can I get one? My muzzle brake won't go on with the gills level, from my research I just need a crush washer to get it sorted.

Any ideas?

Most crush washers I've seen are on sump plugs of vehicles , copper would look shithouse so I assume it must be made from something else

How much extra rotation is required Keith?

He needs less rotation to make it line up. I didn't measure the thread, but 28 tpi is normal, and it is 1/8th of a turn out (or thereabouts). So that is about a 15 thou washer to make the ports horizontal.

Keith - the key thing is that your muzzle brake needs that hard abutment at the back to maintain concentricity with the bore. Any washer you stick in there had better be perfectly square.

I have precision ground shim coming out of my arse as we use it to time gear sets. Sizes for ID and OD please.

I'll measure it tonight when I get home mate. But yeah OD will be whatever the Tikka Varmint barrels are and 22mm sounds right.

Get some shimming brass and make your own to suit,couple of different thicknesses.

Good point CT. Keith, you can measure the thickness you need by using a set of feeler gauges to act as a tempoary shim. They will give you the exact thickness you need for the right offset.

What about a thin lead washer, just tighten it up till its in the right spot, the lead will squish out to the correct thickness.

Glenn barrel is 21.5mm the diameter of the threaded part of the barrel is 15mm or 14mm where the thread finishes. Thanks mate

Measured it with feeler washers to tonight it's around about .50mm from what I could tell.

If your going to make washers that thin in a lathe it would be easier to face the back of the brake so it lines up. 1 less part to go missing if you ever take it off in the future.
