Productive arvo

Post by WARDY91 »

Do today my dasher resize reamer finally arrived from ptg straight down the shed to start making my new full length bushing die. Found a piece of 4140 and got to it. More photos come come once it's done.

Yeah mate it is one of the Mars kits. I don't know what I would do without it now I've got one. Set it 25-30" short of the go gauge shoulder cut until it stops measure once adjust and cut the perfect final depth. Great for setting crush fit for fire form barrels too.

Yep. I reckon that's what he means about a resize reamer.

I have to get on the lathe soon to make up a push through bullet sizer and also a stepped neck expander. Handy having the tools.

Yeah as JD said the resize reamer is .0025 smaller than the chamber reamer on the body & .006 on the neck but I'm using bushings so that is of no real importance.

Having all the tools makes this sort of stuff real easy that's for sure.

You bastards with all the gear and skills to make this sort of thing give me the shits about my lack of ability, but at least I can cook a good pie.

Now a quick question if you don't mind.

I have several 5/8 super simplex seating dies for 22 calibre, I want one for my 338 and 7mm, would it be feasible to drill the 22 cal ones out to make them into the correct size. These are hunting rifles so I am not too worried about a little run out. Yeah I could buy them, but thought this might just do the job. What do ya reckon ?

Thanks mate, I reckon it would be a reasonably simple job, they are hardened but a quick anneal, drill them out and then heat and quench in some oil would probably do the job, its not as if I was going to do it to any of my Redding or RCBS dies. Will give it a go today. Might even get adventurous and try making a couple of correct sized seating stems.

I'm sure I've said that more than once. Apart from the pie bit. I've never made a pie

Sorry missed the resize bit

SO if you used your chamber reamer and a bushing then you would have a comp bushing neck die as the body wouldn't be sized just the neck. What about a seater, do you make one of those too.

And yes, you got the next question in advance

Do you take orders?

Trevort I will be making a bushing bump die with the chamber reamer to bump back .001"-.002" max. As for the seater I'm going to use a forster ultra micrometer with the correct seater stem and ream the floating sleeve with the chamber reamer. Once I'm happy with the finished product I will be more than happy to make them if people want.

so if I was building a 20 dasher and bought a forster seater for a 20 Dasher would you still see an advantage reaming the seater sleeve?

And speaking of seating stems, I bought a 20 cal redding seating stem when I made my JAB 20 (which uses converted 223 dies) but it wouldnt fit and I seat the 20 cal pills with the 223 stem and it still can shoot bughole groups

The only 20 dasher dies I've come across are the whiddens but they are pretty pricey. The only 204 die forster do are for the 204 ruger. I wouldn't bother reaming a manafuctered they usually make the seater a bit oversize.
