Glen I have a 222 rimmed that is a 1:16 and I am pretty sure the 22 spitfire (Not going to mention call it a 5.7 Johnson, enough dick talk in this thread already :) ) is 1:16 as well as most hornet barrels are.

Anyway the heaviest ballistic tip type projectile will most likely be a 40 gr nosler longest of the 40's. They will shoot 50's fine that are hollow point and probably soft points especially if you are running a 22/250 or 220 swift type cartridge. There are the odd 55 that will prob work as well.

I first tried 50 gr vmax's in the 222 and wondered why it was all over the place, you could see side on profle of the bullets on the target they were wobbling that much :( Cutting the tips off improved but not enough. Hollow points worked well but 40 gr noslers shoot very very well!

1:16 is perfect for a lighter pill 22 centrefire. There is a 63 gr sp pill sierra makes or did make called the smp which are stubby (Oh dear here we go again  ) that will prob shoot okay too.

Yes the sp projectiles will stabilize in slightly heavier weights over the ballistic tips due the shorter bearing length..............I asked about being a centrefire barrel in case you inadvertently stored away a rimfire barrel and forgot about it.

I understand mate. From memory a 22lr will measure 3-4 thou smaller.

Yes this one has me thinking about 75 gn Amaxes and wondering how fast they would go. Now that I am waiting for a Dasher as a 20 cal I am wondering what to do with that Stiller. It costs $100 to open the bolt face wonder if there is enough room in the action. I'm sure I could stick a case in and check when I get my ass off the couch!
