If the silver ring at the front of the action is the shim, its the thickest 3thou shim I ever did see .

That was my thought exacerly Chris but the old Fella is a bit crafty as he took a slight cut on the barrel so the outside of the shim slides over it.The shim is not flat but has an "L" shape in side profile.

I spent the day being Mr Mum and between moping floors washing up and entertaining Toot Toot I did a bit of work on the 17 Stock.
I also opened up the barrel channel a smidgeon and bedded the action- Camel

"I spent the day being Mr Mum "
Whats this crap, you told me your mother was there doing that for you while you were playing with your toys.
The stock is going ok as well, how many hundred more coats are you going to put on it ? I have plenty of flannelette available

A .003" shim would tear when tightening the barrel. By putting the shoulder on, your very wise smith has made sure this didn't happen.MISSED wrote:That was my thought exacerly Chris but the old Fella is a bit crafty as he took a slight cut on the barrel so the outside of the shim slides over it.The shim is not flat but has an "L" shape in side profile.
