If the silver ring at the front of the action is the shim,its the thickest 3thou shim I ever did see :o.

That was my thought exacerly Chris but the old Fella is a bit crafty as he took a slight cut on the barrel so the outside of the shim slides over it.The shim is not flat but has an "L" shape in side profile.

I spent the day being Mr Mum and between moping floors washing up and entertaining Toot Toot I did a bit of work on the 17 Stock.

I also opened up the barrel channel a smidgeon and bedded the action

The stock is going ok as well, how many hundred more coats are you going to put on it ? I have plenty of flannelette available :twisted:

A .003" shim would tear when tightening the barrel. By putting the shoulder on, your very wise smith has made sure this didn't happen.
