Impressive. Certainly a case of thinking outside the square.

Is the stock likely to provide any heat sink properties for the barrel? Probably not if full length bedded.

That's mind boggling thinking of what is used in the set up.
What type of performance/accuracy etc do you expect? More info for those of us not into Heavy guns would be appreciated.

Hi Guys,

The cartridge is the new redesigned 300 Redneck, which is a slightly shorter, fatter, 300 Win Mag. It should move my 209gr pills at around 2950fps. We have a 380 thou long neck to help reduce some throat erosion. The gun will recoil about 20mm on firing, but the wide fore end and double rear rail should give me spot on tracking.

The stock is made out of laminated acrylic benchtop material, so the whole thing is the equivalent of a solid block of epoxy. It machines well, but is a little brittle before you laminate it.The stock weighs close to 12 kg, so I didn't need any lead.

The barrel is actually fully floated, but seeing it weighs over 11 kg on it's own, I don't envisage too many overheating problems. When this barrel is dead, it will get a 1.45" Hart or Kreiger, with stretcher tube.

And for those who aren't sure, it's designed for 1000yd BR. But it is also pretty good on anything that creeps, crawls or flys at long range.

Hi Guys,

It shoots. Just have to get the organic thing at the back sorted now.

Due to range changes up here have only been able to do some load development at short range. The new case is maxed out at 63gr Re 19 with the 209 gr Nevermind, with 2217 I get to 71 and that's it. Anyone ever tells you that a BAT 10 x 2 won't develope the 'Remington click', has never run one hard enough.

The best result seems to be 70 gr 2217, 210M primer, 209gr Nevermind, and at this stage not sure about seating depth. 10 thou jammed gave the same result as 10 thou jumped. Both shot 100m groups in the low 0.1".

Weekend after next we have 500m on Saturday, followed by 1000yd Sunday, so will be looking to test the 2 seating depths Saturday, with a view to the Sunday match.

In any case, looks like I have a gun I can take to Narromine.

The results in 2 weeks will let you all know how it went.
