With animals like the Buffalo you really become torn between two wound characteristics.
1/ Quick kill through heart/lung shots
2/ Immobilisation through spine or shoulder shots - and the spine does not run along the backbone that is where the nice steaks are, the spine is lower in the body.
Depending on the circumstances either shot may be more appropriate. For the record, I would encourage this cow to leave the water first. The idea of separating head from carcass in that water gives me the willies. I have no mind to be lunch for a snapping handbag.

It's OK, we have guides to do that for us.adamjp wrote: For the record, I would encourage this cow to leave the water first. The idea of separating head from carcass in that water gives me the willies. I have no mind to be lunch for a snapping handbag.

I was about to say that's the guides job, and then thought better of it in case I lose my place...dhv wrote:It's OK, we have guides to do that for us.adamjp wrote: For the record, I would encourage this cow to leave the water first. After much discussion with old man Kickin and talking to JasonF today, I'd like to put my hand up to fill any spot that may be left empty.
I'll be up at the next Missedathon with dad and probably my older brother to meet you all boys (again) and get to know you all a bit better.
It'll be sweet for you guys to get to know me a bit and see whether or not you'd like me to come up north!
See you all then!

Good to see you are going to get with the program mate, I'm sure everyone up there will look after you properly and you wont have any trouble mixing in. Just one thing though, do you really have to bring the old man up to Yass again
what happened to the photos of the last Missathon, or was that the other one who took them and was going to post them.

Missed asked the same thing!Camel wrote:

Most of them were just of my family! I didn't quite feel comfortable taking too many pics of others, and the ones that I did, dad has already posted!
I'll know better for next time though!

Excellent decision Space Cadet. I look forward to hunting with you.Space Cadet wrote:After much discussion with old man Kickin and talking to JasonF today, I'd like to put my hand up to fill any spot that may be left empty.
Definitely don't be shy about taking pics of everyone and everything at the catch up in Yass. The pics make for great reminders.
Cheers, Jason.

Buff I wouldnt know how to mark dots on those photos and then post them back again and since you only got one reply. do want to post the right answers?
My inclination on goats as always to aim for the shoulder but the heart and lungs are much lower down in the chest.
So what works best?

Re: 2015 BUFFATHON - Take 2
There is no real right or wrong Trevor, more a preference thing. I prefer to shoot them in the head mostly but will shoulder shoot if I don't get offered a good shot on the head. When shoulder shooting, I like to try and break both shoulders instead of the typical "behind the shoulder" shot. I find this generally anchors them better and allows for a swift follow up shot as it's hard to run off with no front legs.
To put some dots on the pics, simply save them to your computer, open them in paint and put a dot on and save it. then re-post.
Cheers
