Mounting a scope on a BSA Meteor

Post by trapper »

I have an old BSA Meteor and a brand new BSA scope. I just tried to fit the scope mounts that came with the scope to the rail on the gun. The fit just doesn't look right to me (see photo). The clamping piece seems to be cocked off at an angle like the rail is too wide for the mount. The rail on the BSA is 11.1mm wide. Is it possible they supplied the wrong mounts, or is this how it's supposed to look?

Looks like 11mm rings on 13mm rail to me.

Is it just me or does that pic look like the clamping block is upside down? Look at the shape of the block versus the cutout on the ring...looks like it would fit better the other way around.

I agree Raven. Nice spotting.

Incidentally, take care with those mounts Trapper. If I remember rightly, they can strip the threads fairly easily.

Bingo! The clamping piece is reversible. Thanks Raven.

Remember a photo of the complete rig once fitted up Trapper.

I will be interested to hear what you think of the scope as well........

Here you go curan.

The scope is nice. It was very easy to zero. I was worried I'd have to pack the rear scope mount to account for barrel droop, but one full turn of the elevation knob had it zeroed at 10m. The trigger seems very heavy to me though. Maybe it's because I'm used to a PCP.

That looks very very good for a cheap rifle. Apart from the trigger, how does it shoot?

Well I'm not much of a judge, but it seems fairly consistent with the Predators. Will keep an eye out for an Indian Myna and see how it goes in the wild.

Hi Trapper,

About that trigger.......

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BSA_Meteor_Air_Rifle

According to this I reckon your rifle is adjustable. 8)

But you may have to get extra info to find out how, coz I don't know how

Thanks Curan. There are entire websites dedicated to this rifle. I've found a few detailed "how to's" on modifying them. One day I might find time to strip it down and give it a good going-over. In the meantime I'll see what I can find out about adjusting the trigger.
