Anybody used this or similar product?

Post by mick_762 »

Has anybody had a go at using this product, or something similar?
Its for the engraving project on my Zastava 9.3x62.

Is it available or again similar product available in Australia?

I've not used it, but if you ask that question on AHN, or of the folks at HSS you will get good responses.

HSS were selling it in 2011 for all comers on AHN.

A fair few blokes took it up for special guns. It does add quite a bit of class to an otherwise plain shotgun.

How real do you need the gold to appear? If it's just for appearance? Then Model Master Metalizer paints can do wonders, I've used it on many a scale model years ago.

Testors Metalliser Brass Non-Buffing may be what you want. It won't 'fill' the engraving to give an inlay'ed look but is otherwise fine. It is thin, so it could run into engraving you'd like to leave unpainted (don't overthin). Note: The Model Masters Metaliser paints are lacquer based, don't apply it over enamel, acrylic, or water based paints. Available at most hobby shops.

Here's a pic of the bottle, probably $5-7 worth. Yes you can brush it (despite the airbrush only warning) which is probably all you need for engraving.

Oh, they do a nice range of 'metal' paint finishes

Another place to try for a gold inlay look is an art and craft store (eg. Spotlight, Riot etc). You'd be surprised the kits they have.
