Torches ?

Post by Milo1976 »

Hi guys,
I am planning on buying a torch pretty soon.
I have had my eye on the olight m3x. These retail for about $200. I have seen these working and was very impressed but I was wondering if anyone else has seen these and been able to compare to some of the cheaper torches on eBay. I reckon the olight would put a strong beam out at least 250m.
I am a firm believer of you get what you pay for but at the moment there is but of gear I still need to buy and the eBay ones are a hell of a lot cheaper and perhaps could be on par performance wise.
It would be good to hear your thoughts.
Cheers.

I have got a couple of Wolfeyes Torches expensive but good build quality and neither one is really "it"

I payed $100 for a Monster light that turned out to be a Trustfire 1200 which can be found on ebay for around $40 posted from Hong Kong. This one laid in the paddock for 2 weeks and when found still worked :D

Go to http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/forum.php lots of really good info here.

Talk to fenring mate. He will be along shortly.

The man has forgotten more than us mortals will ever know about torches.

The M3X would be a good choice at that budget.

If you want to save some coin but still get good quality and performance, have a look at this critter:

in between price wise is the Armytek Barracuda but you are stuck with a long torch that can't be run in a short, single 18650 battery configuration.

In simple terms, what would you say is the difference between the two?

Or what would you personally buy between the two?

The Solarforce . I have a few of their lights and they don't disappoint.

torches are like computers mate - this month's best is an also-ran in six months time, such is the march of technology.

but - a torch that does a good job now will still do it in a year's time.

Very happy with my M3X Triton. Nice hot spot with very even spill. Eats batteries 2 at a time though, so budget for extra cells and a charger capable of sparking 4 in one hit if you get the M3X. Cheers.

Yeah, the new version with the xp-g2 led would be a decent thrower.

Eagletac also make some good lights at sharp prices.

Yep, totally agree. The Solarforce M9 is a ripper torch for the price. Long thrower with bright spot and lots of spill. Used on the HMR the other night and smashed about 40 rabbits from the back of the ute. No trouble lighting them up at barrel stretching distances on a moonlit night. Good torch indeed. Get spare batteries though. PITA running out of power in the middle of a session.

My M22 Warrior olight is a great bit of gun mounted light for the money. It wll let you stretch a HMR legs no problems good, spot & spill. About $130 for the gun mount package.

Cheers
