I'd take a cz over a ruger any day.
Just personal choice when all said and done.
I have a cz in 17hmr , very nice pleasure to shoot reasonably accurate and I also have a ruger in a larger cal. Also very nice but would prefer the cz.

No offence taken mate - you are more qualified than most to make comment on this type of stuff....

.....and that's not just because you're the one who seems to post the most here. Must be a pretty cruisey life, being a pro rabbit shooter...

I have the rugger brought new with a leupold scope has always been a good performer. What I have found recently is the Winchester ammo is not only cheaper but shoots a far better group than the hornady stuff with less fliers. Finally sent it in to have the trigger lightened pick it up tonight and see how it goss this weekend.

Their safety is great unless it does this

This is the rifle I bought a few weeks back. It's the second M77 that has come through my hands with this problem. It can be fixed but is one to look out for when buying used rifles.
The first gun I saw with this problem was brand new and sent to a GS to lighten the trigger and it came back in this condition. A bit scary really, but it is fixable.
Anyway, just thought I'd share this info and my unfortunate experience.

Looks like dodgy gunsmithing work.

Yes, certainly.
The first gun was my brand new Ruger 77/17 and the GS is a VERY experienced and reputable tradesman. He was mortified when alerted to the problem. He has since rectified the fault and apologised profusely. I'll get him to fix the Hawkeye Predator when I go to work for a 2 week hitch so I won't be inconvenienced by not having the rifle while at home. I alerted the bloke I bought the Predator from and he also was shocked. He'll alert his GS over in WA re what took place and to ensure that future trigger/safety work is fully function tested in all 3 safety positions.

I do not own a ruger so am going to guess that the middle safety position is to be able to still operate the bolt. If this is so, I know it is kind of irrelevant as the firearm is unsafe if safety is used but what happens if you cycle the bolt in the middle position?

Yep, middle position is supposed to be where you can safely work the bolt and empty the magazine without it firing.

That has some good info there to read. :)
I am looking at getting a .17hmr
American Ruger. It looks like a great gun.

G'day Marcus, nice looking rifle, do you want to swap your timber stock for a pepper laminate stock for your M77/17?
