Re: .223 load development
Good advice dsd, I develop my loads at 200m then check them at 300.
It's a rare day I shoot further than this under the light

Re: .223 load development
Fascinating info there. I hope the load weights translate to my rifle too. (A Thompson Center Dimension)
Sorry if I gave offense there Elitesniper.
I didn't mean to imply that you were doing anything risky. Just wanted to know why.

I went to the range last night for development, although it's a only a 50 yard range I was massively impressed with the load I achieved....I'll try and post a picture tonight if I get a chance...cheers

On the other hand this is load development using BENCHMARK 8208
It totally blew me away with the results and I think it's way better than 06H for .223
Here take a look

Re: .223 load development
If thats at 50 yards you would want all loads to be touching holes no matter what powder. At 100yds the 8208 loads will be good. Remember if your shooting at twice the range you load develop for, your loads might be twice the size.
8208 I have found to be a fantastic powder. Would test again at 24.4gr because that flier as probably the shooter. You have a good group either side of it which suggests its in the middle of the preferred charge weight area. Best to stay in the middle in case your loads vary +/- 0.1 or 0.2gr so you stay in that range.
Lastly I agree with the good doctor. Try it on a cat!

Re: .223 load development
Don't you like a good archive of posts and a search function that works? Just been looking through this thread for load info.
I've purchased some 50gn Z-Max .224 and was wondering about starting loads, and steps. I'm still using 2206H but will now consider trying the BM8208 next time I buy powder.
ADI doesn't have specific load data for the Z-Max, what's would be the closest match for starting data? I'm leaning towards their entry for 50 GR. SPR SP with 25gr start and 27.5C max....thinking I'll probably start with 25 and work to 26 as that has been exceptional on bunnies with 55gr.
