I figure worst case I'll FL size them again which should stretch them more?
Nope, you would have to trim a fair bit off to do that. I just trimmed them all to the same length, they were pretty close anyway just enough to take the rough mouths off.

so..............................what would be the result if you went say 40thou under that again, not saying its ideal but what negative effects would that have....................................I say your brass will be fine.
Edit to add: Only thing to watch is if at a later date you use brass with a longer trim length, if the carbon deposits that build up between the case mouth and end of chamber arnt cleaned out you may very well have dramas chambering the case due to that buildup...........................keep it clean and alls good.

Keith,
Brass lengths during use which why we trim anyway. Your brass will be fine and will need trimming again after some use.
What I would say is as a general rule don't do much prep work before first firing as during that first firing the brass conforms to your chamber for the first time. typically this results in the largest single brass movement in the cases life. Uniforming your new brass after that first firing simply means you are working on a case that is close to final dimensions.
FL size and primer pocket uniform .... fire once .... clean brass .... FL size, primer pocket uniform again, trim to length and away you go. This is what I do, it is certainly not a must do or even a should do system. It does give the best results for accuracy with minimum effort based on the diminishing returns system.

Keith, because i am lazy and do not like to trim much my hunting 308 brass is always trimmed to 5thou under so i get more firings before i need to trim again. Ok it is only my hunting rifle, but i have never had any dramas with it and last time I took it out i hit something the size of a goats head at 380m so I think you should be fine.
