just went on to the PSECO site for the first time. Excellent write up about why choose REM, just like any other factory rifle some good some bad but easy to tune to make a top class outfit and heaps of aftermarket choices. i know I've heard it before, I have heard it from Shane but nice to read elsewhere.

Shane dont you go near that site until all my rifles are finished. he posts his prices and I dont want you to get any ideas!!

alpal,

Read the review and it says what I said the Rem leaves it behind in aftermarket parts and add ons.

I have said that they do the job mate .. I just would not buy one over a Rem.

cheers

Aftermarket parts are only good if you are going to make a custom rifle I think many people are happy to get a trigger job, bed it float it and then change the barrel as it is burnt out!

kjd,

Your probably right mate ... I just know that I can't help myself I have to sqeeze every bit of accuracy from a rifle. That way when I miss I know its operater error.

I have heard of Howa's (brand new) where a locking lug was fully floated ... that is not touching anything. I had a CMC 222 & 243 years ago which is just a Howa anyway .. they shot well enough but were only good for headshots on rabbits to about 180 - 190 without misses.

As I say "I" would not buy a Howa over a Rem ... as I also say I would buy an XR 100, VLS or a VL SS Thumbhole not an SPS. Thats just me and I don't think you would go wrong with any of them.

cheers

My VSSF .22/250 would never do better than 1.25 MOA until I rebarrelled it . I'd take a Tikka or a Sako depending upon available funds .

thanks for the help fellas.i forgot to say that the rifle will mainly be use for getting dog meat(spotlighting out of a ute 95% of the time)don't know whether this makes a difference?

thanks Jon

JBS

My vote's for the remi, but if your want to save the $, there's nothing wrong with a Howa, especially if your going to put the saved $ into a good scope.

My howa was great, the lilja barrel on it hasn't really been tested
as yet.. the howa isn't the path to go for addons, but as a stock
rifle with a new barrel in its future..e

go for it, i'd buy the tikka over the rem if i was buying again, or
a savage.

I found BenchMark 2 a very powder accurate in my old Ruger 223. Also seating the projectiles out 0.015" off the lands (magazine permitting) adds to excellent grouping.
