Cheers.

They will also duplicate a profile of an original barrel if supplied.

My 6.5mm maddco that is an absolute hummer was around 600 or so from memory. Thats a 30 inch barrel 1.25" straight. You would expect a 26" HV profile or rem varmint profile to be a bit cheaper, but around 500-600 would be it.

Is that for a barrel blank?

I have a barrel nearly ready. 338-06 which they had no barrel made so it will be about 4 months turn around. If they have barrel blanks on hand it only takes them a few hours to fit once they get to it.

Last week I orderd a barrel from Maddco. They have had a ~10% price rise, I was quoted $840 fitted.

The last barrel shot so well load development was made easy; they break in soo easily and shoot exceptionaly well; I was thinking at the time that these barrels are worth the money, saving me time and components in load development and barrel life!

If you don't mind me asking Mulga, how much was the barrel by itself?

I didn't ask. But I would think 10% increase on the old price would be a fair guess. Nev Madden suggested it was thier first price increase in seven years.

G'day all,
just remember most factory rifles are made to a price, some reports were for less than $50-US, it is amazing to consider just how well some shoot.
Nevertheless, if you can borescope a factory barrel then compare a custom barrel the bore condition is obviously better AND hand lapped for a slight taper to the muzzle. They are usually easy to tune reloads for, your confidence will vastly improve as will your results downrange.
In laymans terms, by the time your used custom barrel even BEGINS to look like a new factory barrel, you probably have shot 3000+ rounds AND the old custom will STILL out shoot a new factory barrel if it has been well looked after.
I think one of the very best investments you can make is a new barrel fitted by a reputable quality gunsmith. While it is there being rebarreled, consider the following, tune/replace trigger and a proper bedding job!
You wont regret it
Cheerio Ned
