I'd like to also do one of these up and was only thinking about it the other week. I was thinking that I could justify it by telling Leanne that it was for her.

Re: New project - Omark .308
Evening Marcus, Just saw your Omark project and I can assure you that you will have some fun experimenting. I have an Omark that has had the adapter fitted and is a switch barrel in the 22, 6mm & 30br. The rifle is bog standard with with a $30 stock from the LGS minimal bedding has been done, trigger is safe and reliable. As for a torque setting, well the screws are tight.
This rifle shoots great in all calibers and has accounted for hundreds of foxes with the 22BR barrel, the 6mmBR barrel doesn't get used much of late as the 22br Is so efficient.
The 6br load I use is a 70gr Nosler BT over 31.5 of 2208 and it's evil on the foxes which is what we are generally after.
Have fun
Adam

Cheers Adam, it was your "WA redcoats" thread that I was thinking of. How could you not be inspired a that pile of 16 foxes?

Re: New project - Omark .308
I spent some time last night extending the butt stock with a roughed out piece of pine, and then added a slip-on recoil pad over the top. Certainly not pretty but I have been itching to have a few shots. I managed to source forty 144gn FMJ rounds through the local rifle club for $20 during the week.
Firstly I set up a big pice of cardboard with a white plastic lid on my cyprus log backstop and parjed the ute back around 25m and roughly zeroed the rear peep sight over the bonnet. Moved back to 100m and another 3 shots got it close enough to POI to try some grouping after changing the position of the lid on the cardboard.
In the end I had 13 shots at the same POI. As you can see there is over 9" of vertical stringing which could be either due to the peep sight canting forward after each shot (took me a while to pick this up), my inexperience with peep sights (never used them before) or my basic shooting technique. The pleasing aspect was that the lower 12 shots were all within approx 1.5" for windage.
Once I had shot off half a dozen rounds I clued onto the peep sight moving around, and made sure that I checked and straightened it up after each following shot. I also paid close attention to making sure that the aiming mark was perfectly centred within the front and rear apertures. These two things seemed to improve the grouping, with the cluster of 5 shots going into approx 0.76". I reckon this old thing might be a shooter.
I wonder how it might perform with a scope, specifically worked up loads, and a lighter trigger pull?
Marcus
PS - how do you get photos to post in the correct sequence within the body of the text?

Re: New project - Omark .308
Marcus, that rear peep "shouldnt" move around like that (dumb question coming) did you try another hole in the mounting block to get a good tight fit?
You will love the Omark mate, when you play and find "that" load she will shoot like stink -
My load for target shooting is:
Lapua Cases
155gn Dyer HBC
45.3gn ADI AR 2206H
CCI LR Primers
For vermin etc a lighter projectile would do better, but the 155gn pills work a treat on Wild Dogs.

Marcus
like Mick I don't think your peep is matched to the grooved rail on the action,
in the pic looking along the barrel the centre of the peep should be close to the centre of the
horizontal arm.
Hope this helps as they are a great thing. A scope mounts up really easy.

Re: New project - Omark .308
I think you are right - from this photo i found on the internet it looks like the Central rear peep has a different grooved lower "leg" compared to the one I have which can be seen in the second set of photos, on the first page of this thread. I assume the one I currently have is for a SMLE. Will have to keep an eye out for the proper Central type, or maybe a Parker Hale 5COl 55 wrote:Marcus

When you have uploaded the file you can select it and use the place inline option, just remember to give it it's own line otherwise they will get spread wide and be a pita to readBranxhunter wrote: PS - how do you get photos to post in the correct sequence within the body of the text?

Marcus,
I have a Central I would lend you, I don't know if I want to sell it though.
Having said that I can't see myself ever using it.

Re: New project - Omark .308
Ol 55,
Thanks for the generous offer. If you're unsure about selling how about I check with the local rifle club to see if they have any spares. I might have some other avenues to chase as well.
I'll send you a PM with my details as well.

I have a Parker Hale rear peep and I'm almost certain that it's for an Omark.

Good stuff - looking to sell? I understand that the Parker Hale 5C was often fitted to Omarks, like the one below.Curtley78 wrote:I have a Parker Hale rear peep and I'm almost certain that it's for an Omark.
