I tried a few. It's impossible to fark it up with a Wilson. You don't need the micrometer. If safe is all you need rather than total uniformity to chase accuracy the lee trimmer is perfect.
Camel it appears to me you have the hump!

Wilson all the way. I've used the Lee trimmers and the Hornady trimmer, and neither of those comes close IMHO. It's literally a pleasure to trim cases with the Wilson.

So why is the lyman no good. .. I don't like using it but that's I have ever used and that all I have...

It does the job. It's just a fiddly pain the arse with poor ergonomics. Every step of the trimming process seems engineered to be overly difficult uncomfortable and inefficient on the Lyman.crackers17 wrote:So why is the lyman no good. .. I use the possum hollow trimmers which are similar to the WFT.. brilliant, accurate.. more time left to drink beer.

I've only ever used a Wilson with the hand crank. Once setup seems to be reasonably consistent. Never used anything else to compare it to. Good enough for what I'm doing.

I don't understand the criticism of the Lyman, it's like you people are talking about different vintage tools. I'm pedantic about accuracy and ease of use, and I find this machine ok. It is has a solid body, provision to fix firmly to the bench and is concentric. The universal chuck is self centering as is the pilot on the cutter head. It cuts cleanly and square to the centreline. I keep a dummy round for the 223 and Bee, setup up is quick and easy.GriMo wrote:It does the job. It's just a fiddly pain the arse with poor ergonomics. Maybe low volume use is a factor.....my 2c anyway

It's the only tool I have ever used for case trimming. Maybe it's just a prick of a task, but for a tool designed for one specific task I just don't think it's that great to use.frakka wrote:I don't understand the criticism of the Lyman, it's like you people are talking about different vintage tools. Your correct regarding the concentricity and solid build, personally I don't find it enjoyable to use. Quite simply in my eyes, if it broke tomorrow, I'd replace it with something else.

G'day All,
initially had an RCBS, got into target shooting in 1996, got a Wilson & never looked back, after 16years got the micrometer for it (only 'cause the Au$ was high), brilliant addition if you need to trim to an exact dimension.
Just clamp in in a bench vice, simple, quick and accurate, just make sure you get the correct shell holder for either fired or new cases, as some cartridges need both, most dont.
