Terry Brady’s name is synonymous with 600-yard world records. On July 14, shooting at the Piedmont range, Terry smashed his own IBS 600-yard Aggregate world record. Running his 15.5-lb 6BR in the Heavy Gun Relay, Terry nailed an amazing 1.5055″ 4-target Agg. Two of his 5-shot groups were under 1.3″! Target by target, here are his groups: 2.063″, 1.209″, 1.469″, 1.281″

Another record to the 6mmbr.... and suprisingly shot in the HG class...

There is a bunch of guys in the US that run Cruiser class rifles in 6 BR that weigh about 25 lbs or so. Too little weight and the gun handling goes off, too much weight and the slide on recoil becomes inconsistant and the groups suffer. So a few of them have got the package worked out well like Brady. Looking at the equipment sheet, the 600 yard seems to be fielded entirely with 6 mms of some sort or another and to my disappointment not a big gun to be seen. On calm days like this one was it would be nice to see what a good 30 or 7mm would post group and agg wise. Our experience in Townsville in both light and heavy class is that the six mils can group well but don't score great in the rough stuff and the seven mils have the best of both in light gun.
I wouldn't mind betting that most of the competitors take multiple guns or barrels to see what the day pans out to be. In the future i will do the same as i have a 6/284x1.75 barrel that has shot a ten shot group at 500 M of 1.6", 9 of them into 1.1". But generally i will still use the 30 Redneck in HG.

I did see that 6mm's really dominated the field, but I guess at that range which it was shot, if you wernt shooting one you were off the pace. If the big 7mm and 30cals would have done great, I would imagine that the field would have been full of them.

Therer has to be something behind it!

What is behind the six mill dominanting 600 at the minute is that there are two very distinct groups of people shooting 1K and 600. The IK boys are not venturing into the 600 as much as one would have thought. Tooley is one of the few, and he generally took home the wood. The 600 boys are just generally doing the 600 thingie and nil else. Some of them have larger than 6 mil rifles/barrels, but definetly when the day is good a 88 or 95 grain FB 6 mil is hard to beat for both speed of fire and accuracy. But a closer look at all the matches over the past couple of years show that when it is not a case of waiting for the fog to lift and rather staking down the benches and seats, the groups have been huge. My mind tells me that a biggun is begging to be there. The whole field shooting sixes in crap just produces all crap groups and scores, unless Tooley was there and he shoots a 2 inch agg, as he often does, then that one gun, 30 BooBoo with 187 BIBs, make the rest look even more crap. At he moment, 600 is only picking the rising cream in matches to report about, but go back and have a look at all the match reports and a whole different picture appears. On some of these near perfect days a 6PPC with 67 Elfs would do great, but is that the choice for the rest of the season?

I have to agree mate .. I have seen the 6mm's shoot some outstanding scores even at Fly .. but they don't do it on the crap days.

The real question is when I build a long range gun do I want it to shoot in all conditions or just in good conditions.

A lot of these US scores are shot in perfect conditions and as you say when a 30 Boo Boo turns up the 6mm sowners curl up in a ball and groan.

Unless I am mistaken YOU started this thread. YOU based it on US results and 600 M shooting.

Muzzle breaks are illegal in Fly but not in 600M.

Muzzle breaks are completely legal in the USA.

And if you look you will even see 6mm's with muzzle breaks in the US.

You refered to the Fly in your previous post so I got side tracked...

But why was there no big bangers there on the day, I feel the range dictates what you shoot in the US, and this range in particular resulted in a learge number of 6's.

G'day, AI,
i tried, at one stage, to shoot the 300WnotsoSM at the thousand (it's a semi-custom Rugged #1), but without a tapered base I had to hold the X-hairs about 3-4' over the top of the target; with t erecoil of the bench (I'm a wuss) I still managed, and I mean just managed to pulla 11.9" group for a score of 43... not bad considering it's aheavy stalking rifle, but it is achievable. Not to be a regular thing though, it has been retired from target work for the present.
