New, Old & Would be Benchresters

Post by steven »

It would be good to here from all benchrest shooters no matter what type of benchrest you do and what rifles you shoot.

I personally shoot 100/200yd C/F and 50m/100yd rimfire with a little bit of Fly/1000 yd stuff as well.

My main C/F is a Stolle Panda RB/LP with a number of different barrels to shoot Sporter, LV, HV and Experimental in 6ppc. Stock is Mcmillan and scope is a Weaver 36 or Sightron 36. Jewel trigger and Kelbly single screw rings. Also have a 40x in 6ppc with Mcmillan stock, Tobler LV and Sporter barrels, Leupold 36X in Kelbly double screw rings and Davidson bases. Trigger is 2oz shilen. Use this one for club shoots and the Stolle for serious competition.

Also building a Bat actioned rifle for LV/Sporter with a Kelbly stock, Krieger barrel, Jewel trigger, Sightron 36x and Kelbly single screw rings. Waiting on stock which could take a while.

My rimfire is a Model 5 Brno with a Tobler barrel, Mcmillan stock and Burris 6x or Leupold 24x depending what class I am shooting.

My Fly/1000fd rifle is a trued 700rem, Mcmillan stock modified and weighted, Maddco 30cal, 1:12, 30inches long in 30.06 ackley, 40moa nightforce base with a Weaver 36x. Trigger is a remington converted to 3 lever 2oz.

Benchrest Shooter!

Post by Ackley Improved »

I am hook, line and sinker sucked into the world of becnhrest!!!

It is so very addictive!!

I am fairly new to the sport, but loving every minute of it!

I am just going to start 100/200yd bench very soon once my rifle is complete, but am currently shooting 500m Fly. Will be having a go at 1000yd as well!

Rifles

1. 300WM, sleeved rem, Hart 30" 1.25" barrel, 8-32 nightforce, Mcmillan Tooley stock
2. 6mm Dasher, Stolle Panda with microport, Hart 28" max HV, Shehane tracker stock in french walnut, 12-42 Nightforce, jewell trigger

These are currently being built.
3. 6.5-284, BAT MB dual port, 30" Lilja tapered to 1", Shehane tracker in french walnut, jewell trigger, 12-42 Nightforce. (just waiting on the stock).
4. 6mmPPC, Stiller Diamondback with drop port, Kelby SPG stock, jewell trigger, Lilja barrel, 45X Leupold BR scope. (Waiting on all parts, but have scope)

6mm Dasher for 500m, 6.5-284 for 1000yds, 6mmPPC for 100/200yd....

As I said.. addicted!!!!

Cheers

WOOO HOOO a benchrest section :D

WELL...... I am also addicted to this sport and it's probably all Stevo's fault

Nah...I find that elusive one hole group the main attraction, the getting to use sweet gear, the fiddling with it and meeting some great people along the way are just the perks :D

I have only been a serious competitor for a bit over a year now, and have had a pretty steep learning curve, the one thing that really stuck out was the help I have been given to get started, most of the benchrest mob are only too pleased to give a few words of advice....both good and bad

I shoot BR30 rimfire, 100/200yrd centrefire and 500m Fly occasionally.

My rifles are -

Savage Varmint .22lr, custom thumbhole stock, lightened trigger, 6-24x Tasco and barrell tuner a-la- Steven. 20MOA base for 200m fly.

Bat SV.6mmPPC, RB/LP Sporter, LV & HV tubes all Maddco's stuck in a Speedy Millenia carbon fibre stock with a Jewel 1.5oz trigger, Kelbly bases and rings with either a Loopy 36x or Sightron 36x

Rem 700, trued with 6BR and 6.5/284 barrells- both Tobler, Kelbly bases and rings, Nightforce 12-42x, jewel 1.5oz trigger in a custom tracker style stock.

Yip Yip

G,day, I've been shooting for 30 years and in the last 3 years have joined the SSAA and also have become addicted to Benchrest.
I'm using a Remington 700 VSF 22.250 and Leupold 6-18x40 VXII. I bought the Rem so as to have an action to build on when I wear this barrel out. I compete at 100/200 yard CF and Rimfire at 50/100 yards. Waiting for an Anschutz MPR64 to turn up any day now.

Shane,

Nah mate, was thinking of going to Springsure but it all got to hard to organise work wise etc. Next shoot for me will be at Silverdale's Coady Classic.

For sure Canberra fly is a good shoot and I would recommend anyone who hasn't tried it to have a go. It is a great range with excellent facilities though it can be tricky conditions wise

Good luck with it if you are shooting :D

Shane,

I wont be there either. Will be at the Coady next month and the Madden in Brisbane the month after. Will be shooting the Fly in Brisbane though. Mark and his young bloke and Tim and his young bloke will be there and I'd say Purcy (Rinso) will be there with bells on.

Had palnned ongoing but struck down by illness at the last moment, and you know I have to be completely stuffed to miss a shoot.

Rinso you miss a good weekend. It was the same old candberra switching conditions but a stronger version.

It kept the scores down but David Waters managed a good 213.3 to clean up. I ended up with 6th overall after i shit myself on the 'C' target.

1000 yards on sunday was interesting. There was plenty of wind and i was on butts duty first up. We started the sighters and then had one of the targets blown away after the legs snapped off from one of the gusts of wind that came through.

Trying conditions yes but the targets werent going to handle it so we called it a day and went home early.

Still a good weekend as usual.
cheers,
Shane

Kenny,

Dave would have been shooting his 338 Ultra which would have been very advantagous in strong switching winds.
Not taking away from Daves ability by that comment.
I bet all the guys shooting 6 Dashers and the like had a long day...
